This week, I established the role of Chief Data Officer, appointing Jason Kirkland to lead data initiatives, particularly leveraging AI and other technologies. I want us to be a leader in this space. Our focus is on enhancing efficiency and problem-solving through AI. Initially, we crafted a policy for AI usage in the city, emphasizing data security and legal compliance. But the policy also ties into our long range plans and corporate values. Our current efforts involve training and ideation on AI applications within local government, starting with engaging our leadership team for endorsement and enthusiasm. Subsequently, we plan to extend this training to all staff. Our ITS team is hosting an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session, providing a collaborative environment for staff to explore AI concepts at their own pace. It's an innovative and inclusive initiative fostering learning and engagement. I also want to thank Chris Lee for his leadership and vision on all this. Glad to have such an exceptional ITS team.
