Meet Brian Oevermann, GISP, Issaquah's resident Geographic Information System (GIS) expert. Brian works with teams across the City to help them map, show, and explain their work. From snow plow maps to tracking heritage trees, Brian's work, while often behind-the-scenes, is integral to Issaquah's success. Thank you Brian, for the ways seen and unseen, that you make Issaquah a wonderful place to live, work, and play in! Brian shares a real-life hero of his (who happens to be related to his work for Issaquah!), his goal to visit every national park, and why he has one of the most inter-disciplinary roles in the City. #employeeappreciation #spotlight #workrecognition #gis

Honored this week to be inducted as an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. I was joined in the Class of 2024 with several local government leaders including: Martha Perego, ICMA-CM, former Director of Member Services and Ethics ICMA - International City/County Management Association; Valerie Rivers, Intergovernmental Affairs Director- Health Department, City of Houston; Kate Fitzpatrick, Town Manager, Town of Needham, MA; Harry Black, City Manager, City of Stockton, CA; and Erik Walsh, City Manager of City of San Antonio. My thanks to Elizabeth Kellar, Barry VanLare, David M. Van Slyke and Steve Hagerty for their support of my nomination as a Fellow. As a proud public administration alum of both USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and Syracuse University - Maxwell School, I have long admired the work of the Academy and the contributions of its many Fellows. Former USC Public Administration Dean Bob Biller took me to an Academy event while I was an undergraduate student studying in Washington, DC. I thank Dr. Biller for instilling in me the importance of the Academy's work. More info on the Academy: www.napawash.org

There are many great local government employee events around the USA. And then there is the City of Issaquah Pumpkin Derby! Each Halloween, departments craft a pumpkin attached to a cart and then the pumpkins are raced on a custom track. Pumpkins are judged for their decoration and their speed. Thanks to Tim Smith and the Issaquah Communications team for the great video. Congratulations to the Administrative Services Department on its win on the track. https://lnkd.in/gcu-tVsS
