Volunteers and city employees are working together to create a searchable database of those buried in Gallatin City Cemetery. A fire in the 1950s destroyed some records, and the remaining ones are incomplete—making it difficult to locate graves. See the Gallatin City Cemetery Database here: https://lnkd.in/eaPSg9Ax For years, dedicated volunteers have been cleaning and restoring headstones to make inscriptions legible, and now their efforts are helping to preserve history. With approximately 8,000 names to document, this project will take time to complete. If you're interested in getting involved with this or other cemetery restoration efforts, please contact Jeff in Mayor Brown’s Office at 615-451-5961.

Ola Bate Roberson made history in 1926 as the first African American in Sumner County to earn a college degree. She went on to dedicate 42 years to teaching in the county and was a longtime volunteer at Sumner Regional Hospital. A special thanks to Allen Haynes for sharing this important piece of local Black history!
