Frankenmuth is home to 5,000 residents and annually welcomes 3,00,000 friends to town. This means we have a diverse business mix and sometimes, are called on to help facilitate some unique requests. Yesterday, Parks and Recreation helped the Bavarian Belle complete their required six-year inspection. The owners worked with Parks and Recreation to secure the location and clear the area of brush and limbs to help ensure the boat is "afloat" for the next six years.

On Tuesday October 1, the City of Frankenmuth is celebrating it’s 65th anniversary. While Frankenmuth was settled in 1845, it did not become a city until much later. On January 3, 1854, Frankenmuth residents formally organized as a Township. On January 14, 1904 the Village of Frankenmuth came into existence. City status became effective on October 1, 1959 after a vote of the people approved the measure. The vote was not just on forming a city but the vote also approved the City Charter. The City Charter essentially functions as the City’s guiding document. The Charter starts with a preamble, “We, the people of the City of Frankenmuth, mindful of the ideals and labors of our fathers in founding and developing this community, grateful to God for the blessings of freedom, peace, health, safety, and justice, and desirous of further securing these blessings to ourselves and our posterity under the Home Rule standards and spirit of the Constitution of the State of Michigan, do hereby ordain and establish this charter for the City of Frankenmuth.” The City Charter details how the City will function, appointive and elective offices, and sets the salary the Mayor and Council receive per monthly meeting – which is $5 dollars for a total of $60 a year if they attend every meeting. The City is proud of its residents, who contribute so much to making this community great. Special thanks to our team of 36 full-time employees and our part-time staff, who work hard to meet high community expectations.?

More than 60 people attended a dedication of the Rose Garden and tree planting ceremony in honor of Mayor Mary Anne Ackerman on Friday, September 20 at 5 pm. A sign will be installed commemorating Ackerman and her service to the community. In addition to her husband Harry Zells, her sisters Charlene Hagen, Theresa Sahr and Louise Hunt were there to lead the ceremony and participate in the tree planting. The tree was a gift to the City of Frankenmuth in Ackerman’s honor from the City of Gunzenhausen. Sister City Committee Chairman Dan Haubenstricker welcomed the visiting German delegation on behalf of the City. Representing the City of Gunzenhausen was their 2nd Mayor Friedrich Kolb and Gunzenhausen City Council members Arno Derneth , Jürgen Brenner and Gerald Brenner.

We are proud to be home to many events and festivals. But every big gathering brings concerns about safety. The City used a portion of its American Recovery Plan Act allocation to purchase barricades to help make the City's efforts at safety easier to implement, most labor efficient and more cost effective. Today we are using the barricades for the first time for the Bavarian Festival street party.

Today the City celebrated Arbor Day with a rousing concert from the List Elementary third grade classes, planted a tree with their help and were the recipients of $150 check for the City Beautification Committee. Frankenmuth is a tree city, marking 42 years. We are proud that we have at least one public tree for every man, woman and child.
