In #FountainValley, we continue to be #thankful to have one of the best fire departments serving not just our community but many through mutual aid agreement and strike team. With all the fires throughout California, remember to keep our #firstresponders and those who are being impacted directly or indirectly in our thoughts and prayers. Like most communities, our team has been busy in the last few months managing food vendors, the unhoused population and sober living homes in residential neighborhoods. We have limited tools to address these tough issues due to state regulations. Quality of life has definitely been impacted and we work hard every day to #maintain quality of life for our community. We are proud of our Food Vendor Taskforce consists of code enforcement, police, and public works departments working closely with our Orange County Health department canvassing our community in the evenings to check for proper permit to operate. Not to our surprise, they don't so we would confiscate their food and equipment to protect our businesses and community to maintain our city's motto #ANicePlacetoLive. We recognized our team and provided them with a small token of appreciation yesterday. Following that recognition, we kicked off our first #LeadershipAcademy facilited by #UCI Division of Continuing Education with a five-day immersion academy created to help build our employees' (15 selected) leadership skills and capacity to excel, both personally and professionally, in their role within our organization. Our executive management team came to support with words of encouragement for our future leaders. Our team is committed in creating an organization where we invest in our biggest asset---our employees! We thank our City Council for approving the funds to #elevate our organization to the next level and our #EngagementTeam for creating programs that create a #positiveworkenvironment where we win together. What a journey it has been as I wrap up my second year as Fountain Valley City Manager! It has been fun with ups and downs but no regrets on my end. I #appreciate my team, my bosses, my community champions and those that don't agree with my decisions as I embrace this journey with one end goal---positive impact! We have accomplished so much in the last year with the opening of our #CentralCitiesNavigationCenter (thank you Lisa Kim for leading this effort and Christine Cordon for our partnership), completion of OCTA #405ImprovementProject (congrats Chair Tam T. Nguyen), groundbreaking of #UniversallyAccessiblePlayground and near completion, General Plan Update, City leading the first State of the City Luncheon, strategic planning sessions that also included our managers for succession planning, completed six labor groups MOUs, fun activities implemented by our Engagement Team (employees driven), Executive Team retreat and team building events and so on. Our team continues to work hard to provide #excellentcustomerservice and be #innovative so we can elevate #FountainValley to the next level. We are creating a #culture to retain and attract quality employees and it may take up to 5-7 years and I know our team is up for that challenge. We got this! I would like to #thank my supporters at #OCCMA and throughout our amazing professions including #MMASC peeps, #FountainValley team and champions, friends and family, and of course my bosses. I also made sure I take vacations along the way to have a work/life balance. ??
