This #WomensHistoryMonth, we honor local legend Sylvia Aldridge, one of Fort Lauderdale’s first African American female entrepreneurs and a true community leader. From starting Sylvia's Employment Agency to help Black workers find jobs to launching Victory Cabs, a taxi service that improved African American transportation access, Sylvia was a force for change. She also helped fund Provident Hospital (the first hospital to serve black community members), supported Dillard High School, and became its PTA's first president. Her legacy lives on today in our community through projects named in her honor, like The Aldridge apartments (??1204 Sistrunk Blvd) and the Alridge Branch of the US Post Office (?? 400 NW 7 Ave). ?????: History Fort Lauderdale - 3 Museums & Research Library on the banks of the New River.
