In partnership with the Center for Neighborhood Technology and Elevate , the City is proud to celebrate the first all-electric retrofit completed through the Evanston Green Homes Pilot Program. This initiative marks a significant step toward Evanston’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and the Northwestern University Good Neighbor Fund, the pilot program provides Evanston homeowners and rental property owners with no-cost health and safety improvements, along with energy efficiency and conservation upgrades. To highlight the program’s impact, Mayor Biss, Councilmember Burns, CNT CEO Nina Idemudia, Elevate CEO Dr. Anne Evens, City staff, and community members toured the newly retrofitted home. As part of the pilot, the home now features a modernized electrical panel, upgraded insulation, a high-efficiency heat pump, a heat pump water heater, and an induction stove.

Evanston has taken a bold step toward a more sustainable future, with the City Council's approval of the Healthy Buildings Ordinance (HBO): https://lnkd.in/g6bk3PfW Evanston is now the first city in Illinois and only the second in the Midwest to implement a building performance standard. The ordinance sets ambitious targets for large buildings—boosting energy efficiency, eliminating on-site emissions, and requiring renewable electricity—all critical to achieving the City’s Climate Action and Resilience Plan. To ensure equitable implementation, Evanston has established two new public bodies: the Healthy Buildings Accountability Board and the Healthy Buildings Technical Committee. We're on the move! The City is packing up and heading to a new home. Over the next few weeks, municipal offices will be relocating from the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center to 909 Davis Street, with the move wrapping up by March 31. But don’t worry—our new space will still honor the legacy of Lorraine H.
