Yesterday, we proudly unveiled the Hungry for History: Onion Burgers historic marker, officially naming El Reno as the birthplace of the fried onion burger! This one-of-a-kind marker—the first in Oklahoma—was generously donated by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. A big thank you to Rhys Martin, president of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association, for making this project a reality! We were also honored to celebrate with current onion burger joint owners and the original "Burger Boys" who helped shape this iconic tradition. Next time you’re near the Route 66 monument, stop by to see this incredible piece of El Reno’s history!

Here's an inside look at the vision for our downtown streetscape project! Please remember, this is a concept and not the final design. This rendering offers a glimpse of what’s to come, including enhanced sidewalks, new lighting, landscaping, and inviting street furniture—all aimed at creating a more beautiful, pedestrian-friendly downtown. Funded by the Transportation Alternatives Program grant, this project focuses solely on streetscaping elements like sidewalks, landscaping, and benches, and cannot be used for roadway repairs. As a multi-year, phased project, this transformation will help make our downtown a vibrant and welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike. Construction is anticipated to begin in approximately 18-24 months, so stay tuned for more updates as we move forward!

Thank you to everyone who attended the El Reno Now Breakfast & Community Meeting this morning! The Canadian County Historical Museum shared photos of their displays and gave important information about El Reno’s historic trolley! It was an honor to present the donations made to the breakfast to El Reno Mobile Meals. We look forward to seeing everyone at El Reno Now in 2025!

We’re excited to announce that El Reno has been awarded $1.2 million through the Transportation Alternatives Program, provided by ODOT, to begin the first phase of a multi-phase project to reconstruct our downtown streetscape. The downtown streetscape includes sidewalk and safety improvements, new lighting, landscaping and trees, and street furniture to enhance the natural beauty of the area. The concept shared below is an early design, and final plans are still in development. This will be a multi-year project with multiple phases aimed at making downtown more walkable, vibrant, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. We are grateful for our partnership with ODOT and will share more details as the project progresses over the next several months. Stay tuned for updates!
