关于我们

Welcome to the City of East Orange. Originally founded as a township in 1863, East Orange became incorporated as a city on January 1, 1909. By the close of the 19th century, East Orange was an agriculturally rich area populated by oil tycoons and Newark industrialists. After World War II, it became a growing destination for the migration of black middle class from the South, as well as southern parts of the state. Currently home to a diverse cultural mecca of people representing countries from around the globe, East Orange combines the best of urban and suburban living. Spacious and affordable housing, a low crime rate, main commercial corridors, distinctive Caribbean and Southern cuisine, transit access and historic green spaces make East Orange a quintessential city for urban renewal. Our City positions range from entry level to middle and senior level management. With a diversity of many departments such as law, health, finance, tax collection, recreation, public works and information technology. We are always happy to welcome new well-qualified personnel to join us!

In the wake of recent federal immigration enforcement actions that have sent shockwaves through communities across the nation, Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) are taking decisive action to support and protect all residents. On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM, the City of East Orange officially launched a Free Public Health Vending Kiosk at the intersection of South Clinton Street and Elmwood Avenue, stationed at EOFD Firehouse #5. This groundbreaking initiative—the first of its kind in Essex County—underscores the city’s unwavering commitment to health equity, human dignity, and the fundamental rights of every individual, regardless of immigration status. Developed in partnership with TestandGo (testandgo) the vending system provides free, on-demand access to critical health and safety supplies, including naloxone, fentanyl test strips, condoms, personal hygiene products, and cold weather kits. By eliminating barriers to essential resources, the project aims to promote preventive care and harm reduction, particularly for those at risk of opioid misuse. “In a time of fear and uncertainty, East Orange chooses to lead with compassion, not intimidation,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “We reject the politics of division and instead reaffirm our commitment to protecting the health and well-being of every resident in our city. No one should be afraid to seek help. No one should be denied the basic dignity of health and safety. This vending kiosk is more than just a machine—it’s a lifeline.” For more information, please contact DHHS at 973.266.5480, or email [email protected]. Written by: Jade Kirby
