At last night’s City Commission meeting, Commissioners presented a Proclamation in remembrance of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) on February 14, 2018. Additionally, the City Commission adopted a year-round community service initiative dedicated to the 17 beautiful souls we lost and all those who were and continue to be impacted. #MSDstrong

Building Bridges for a Stronger Future The City of Coconut Creek was proud to host Jack Bennings, Todd Holt, Debra Mink, and Peggy Doty for the first #GreaterFLAlliance Permitting Action Team meeting of 2025! The focus of the meeting was “Contractor Interaction as it Relates to Permitting”, bringing together numerous Building Departments to improve communication and collaboration with contractors, vendors, and developers. We were honored to have our Coconut Creek All-Stars in attendance: Sheila Rose – City Manager Justin Proffitt, AICP – Director of Sustainable Development Sean Flanagan – Building Official Valencia Massey – Business Process Analyst Marcelo Almas – Structural Chief Dwayne Vanek – Electrical Chief Tommy Vaugh – Plumbing Chief Michael Beck – Mechanical Chief Tamara Joseph – Permit Supervisor The expertise and insights discussed helped clarify permit processes and foster meaningful dialogue to streamline operations for everyone involved. This week’s #MemberMonday features Alliance Board member Sheila Rose. Sheila Rose, AICP, City Manager, City of Coconut Creek, is a highly dedicated and accomplished executive, boasting over 25 years of comprehensive expertise across a diverse range of fields, including economic development, urban design, transportation, environmental stewardship, community engagement, capital improvement planning, funding, implementation, project management, and relationship-building. Her strengths lie in effectively coordinating and implementing a unified vision, fostering team cohesion, and excelling in program and project management and oversight. Ms. Rose has a rich history of working collaboratively on high-profile, complex projects, such as MainStreet, adeptly influencing groups to achieve consensus and attain mutually beneficial outcomes. Ms. Rose is an ICMA Credentialed Manager and has a professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the International City Managers Association, the Broward County City Managers Association, the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and is a past member of the Pompano Beach Architectural Review Board.
