In February 2023, the City of Charlotte received a grant to launch a planning study. The study focused on reconnecting the Historic West End with Uptown. Now, two years later, the city and its partners have five potential concepts. These designs were presented to West End residents for their feedback. "Their intervention saved this citizen’s life." Those were the words a Charlotte Fire Department captain used to describe the heroic acts of two Solid Waste Services workers. Kenneth Wiley and US Army veteran Brandon Martin were rolling through their trash route when they saw a man on the ground not breathing. They jumped into action immediately. The resident had a minor heart attack, but Martin and Wiley's quick work, and a stay in the hospital, helped him walk away from it. “We’re not just garbage men, we’re good Samaritans." Find the full story and an in-depth interview with the brave pair at cltgov.me/goodsamaritans. 1??. Brandon Martin (left) and Kenneth Wiley (right) together at Solid Waste Services 2??.
