This week, the City of Bushnell took part in Career Day at both Webster Elementary School and Bushnell Elementary School! Our administrative staff shared about the day-to-day operations at City Hall and discussed the various services we provide. Employees from the Electric Department highlighted the various equipment a lineman must use on the job, and allowed students to test out and investigate each piece of equipment. The City of Bushnell strives to be an active participant in the community and realizes the importance of investing in its youth! ??

We are excited to announce that the Bushnell Christmas parade will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 4:00 p.m. Following the parade will be the Light Up Bushnell with Santa in the Park event from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Be sure to enter your home or business in the Light Up Bushnell contest and the winner will receive a $200 Bushnell Utility credit. We will have a cake walk, hot cocoa and cookies while waiting to see Santa and Mrs. Claus, a Gingerbread House contest, movies in the park, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, letters to Santa, food trucks and shopping as well as wagon and sleigh rides through Bushnell and more! Please be advised that all City of Bushnell offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2024, in observance of Veterans Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Happy Veterans Day to the brave men and women who served our country and fought for our freedom! ????

Today, volunteers from the American Legion Post 101 - Bushnell Florida, Dade’s Youth and City of Bushnell Staff, placed American flags on the gravesites of our Veterans at Bushnell Evergreen Cemetery. We are grateful for the men and women who served our country and fought for our freedom! ????

Load up the family and head down to the "Light Up Bushnell with Santa in the Park" event on Saturday, November 30th. We will be having wagon rides and sleigh rides throughout downtown Bushnell beginning at 5:00 p.m. The cost is $5 per person and children 4 and under ride free on a parent's lap. It's a perfect time to make Christmas memories on a sleigh ride together with friends and family.

After a rough October, let's plan to "Light Up Bushnell" in preparation of the holiday season and the "Light Up Bushnell with Santa in the Park" event. This event is planned for Saturday, November 30th from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. More details to follow in the coming days. We are encouraging all residents and businesses to decorate and "Light Up" your part of Bushnell in celebration of the holidays. There will be a residential winner and a business winner. Hurricane Milton was like no other storm ever experienced in the history of Bushnell. We appreciate our residents and businesses for heeding warnings, and for the patience displayed throughout the restoration process. We want to thank our City employees; these faithful public servants worked tirelessly around the clock, monitoring and responding to incidents as they were reported, preparing meals for staff and mutual aid, and coordinating with the Sumter County Emergency Operations Center. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our municipal mutual aid partners for helping us restore our community: City of Alachua, FL, Calhoun Utilities, Fort Valley Utility Commission, Cory's Tree Service and Morrison Property Services. Additional appreciation is due to the Taylor Family for preparing meals for our staff during the storm. If there’s one thing we can take away from this experience, it’s that there’s power in community!

Bushnell City Hall will reopen Monday, October 14, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., following closure due to Hurricane Milton. ALL City of Bushnell parks are now open. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.

It’s good to know what’s yours and what’s ours. City of Bushnell Electric will provide maintenance up to the point of connection – you do not need to report any damage at this time as crews are diligently working across our service area to restore power. Members may need to contact a licensed electrician if there is damage beyond the point of connection, such as damage to the weatherhead or meter can. We appreciate your understanding!

??RESTORATION UPDATE - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2024 AT 7:15 A.M.?? There are approximately 540 City of Bushnell Electric customers without power. Please remain patient; we are working as quickly and as safely as possible to get everyone back online. The City’s linemen, as well as crews from Fort Valley Utility Commission and the City of Calhoun, both from Georgia, are currently working to restore our customers in the vicinity of Bushnell Elementary School. We are also grateful Morrison Property Services and Cory’s Tree Service for clearing our lines of trees and debris. Power has been restored in the following areas: -South Sumter High School -Jumper Drive S -Bushnell Garden Apartments -Misty Wood Apartments -Winn Dixie Plaza -Metal Industries -Boitnott Ln -Some customers on WC 48 -Sumter County Detention Center -Bushnell City Hall -E Belt Ave -E Dade -A portion of W Dade -N Wall St -W Parker Ave -W Palm Ave *If your power is still out in the restored locations, please contact the Sumter County Citizen Information Center at 352-689-4400.*
