  • The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department is now in their new 13,411 sq ft facility located at 305 Booker Street. The new facility includes a consolidated reception area, 52 person training and meeting room with additional training and meeting spaces, and 4 client/patient rooms with a specialized patient room for respiratory disease prevention.   • Improvements at the airport included the renovation of the terminal building's bathrooms, kitchen, and front office, along with the construction of a new, larger pilot’s lounge. Additionally, the 20-year-old Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS) was replaced, ensuring that critical weather data needed by pilots is accurate and reliable 24/7.   • The Senior Citizens Center was busy in 2024 serving our senior community. The Center was able to deliver over 48,278 meals, served over 30,000 meals at the center for those who visit daily, and served 150+ people from the personal hygiene pantry. The Center gives our seniors an opportunity to stay active and be social on a regular basis and helps improve their overall well-being. The Center features a full cafeteria, exercise room, pool tables, a library, computer room, and more. The Senior Citizens Center of Brownwood is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm with lunch served from 12:00 – 12:30 pm each day. Meal delivery services are also available for those seniors who are home-bound to have meals delivered straight to their homes during the week.

  • The Heartland Association of Realtors, in partnership with the Lyric Theatre, hosted Brownwood's Got Talent, raising $2,133 to support the renovation of the Bennie Houston Recreation Center. The event showcased incredible local talent, bringing the community together to contribute to a project that will positively impact families and youth for years ahead. The City is currently in a conceptual design phase with BSW Architects. Proposed improvements include maximizing existing floor plan allowing for a larger reception hall and lobby. Kitchen with serving bar, and prep tables. A multi-purpose room for study/tutoring or a classroom/game room. New ADA restrooms facilities, and staff office.

  • Leadership Brownwood class stopped by City Hall to learn about the workings of local government. Mayor Stephen Haynes, led the local government segment providing insight on the role of the City of Brownwood. Program Information: Leadership Brownwood began in the mid-80’s by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce as a community leadership development program. The program is dedicated to educating, developing, and empowering current and future leaders for the community and motivating them to serve civic, charitable, and business organizations. The insights participants gain as they explore the inner workings of the community serves as a foundation for their long-term involvement in Brownwood in a variety of leadership roles.

  • Sanitation collected over 28,000 tons of trash, transported 1,066 loads of brush to the recycling center, and picked up over 17,000 piles of brush and debris from the severe storms throughout 2024. The City of Brownwood provides free residential brush and debris pick-up to all residential customers. Residents can easily request pick-up by completing the online form.
