For 17+ years, Heather Bradford has helped make dollar and cents of our City budget. Bradford says she loves her job not only because of the work she does but also because of the relationships she has built along the way. “I love working for the City and with my coworkers,” she said. “I have many friends across different departments, and it’s nice to collaborate on projects. You can really see that what you do matters, and that is a huge thing.” READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gt95n8Z9

It has been a homecoming of sorts for our new Memory Lab Coordinator Sarah Habeeb at the?Patrick Heath Public Library. The Boerne native is excited to bring even more historical preservation to our community. She also knows it will take team work to make it happen, and she relies on these connections to the community and collaborative partners to tell Boerne’s story. “I know that sense of community is here, which is something I was really looking for in a job,” she said. “I really like the atmosphere working with the City, and I’m glad to have found that here in Boerne.” Click the link to learn more about the new Memory Lab and how to create memories that last a lifetime. Every time someone stays in Boerne, they are helping the City provide important services that are rooted in our community’s pride and identity. That is thanks in large part to our team of four from?Visit Boerne?pictured here. “Events that are part of our community’s identity are funded, in part, by these HOT funds,” Director Larry Woods said. “Enhancements to our Christmas holiday events and other family fun activities receive support when visitors come and stay in Boerne.” In 2023, 161,000 visitors stayed in a room at one of the City’s hotels or short-term rentals and generated nearly $16.5 million in revenue for hoteliers and STR owners. After 35 years of dedication and commitment to Boerne, our fearless Boerne Parks & Recreation?Assistant Director Donnie Bergmann is officially retiring this week and has he made an impact! ? Rebuilding several streets ? Building new sidewalks ? Burying the powerlines on Main Street ? Building Northrup Park ? Renovating Veterans Plaza Those are just the big projects, so it is no understatement to say he has had a hand in just about every parks/street project in our community. Environmental responsibility is not just a phase at the City of Boerne, it is active choice we make every day. The City co-sponsored a One Water Conference Wednesday in New Braunfels, an event that brought together City officials, water professionals, and community leaders to discuss integrated water management strategies. "The Headwaters tour demonstrated that integrating conservation practices is not only possible but adds real value to the community," Councilman Joseph Macaluso said. "I’m excited to see Boerne continue to embrace these principles in our own City projects and potentially in other projects that choose to locate in Boerne." READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gdfxgaky

When it comes to embracing our communities rich history, the Boerne Public Library leads the way. For the second year, the library hosted a vibrant ofrenda in honor of Día de los Muertos, offering a space for the community to remember and celebrate their loved ones and ended with a festive celebration. “Boerne has a rich cultural history,” Outreach Coordinator Leah Mayo said. “Throughout the year, we celebrate Chinese New Year, Black History Month, St. Patrick’s Day, and the Indian holiday of Holi. The community embraces learning about these global cultures and their neighbors who observe them.” This year’s event is just one of more than 750 library events, enjoyed by 150,000 people every year. A recent collaborative project between multiple City departments resulted in more than 200 tires placed in Boerne City Lake in the 1980s to serve as fish habitats being removed. The addition and now removal of the tires is a testament to the evolving understanding of environmental stewardship and the dedication of City staff to preserving the natural beauty of our community. “The removal of the tires is an important part of the City’s ongoing implementation of the Watershed Protection Plan,” Environmental Program Manager Ryan Bass said.
