The Bedford Police Department proudly announces the appointment of Deputy Chief Scott Russell, who was officially sworn-in today. With two decades of law enforcement experience, Deputy Chief Russell brings valuable expertise in strategic planning, crisis management, and community engagement to enhance public safety and strengthen partnerships within Bedford. ? “Deputy Chief Russell strikes the perfect balance between administrative leadership and a deep passion for police work,” said Bedford Police Chief Bobby LaPenna. "He is dedicated to training and ensuring that officers have the skills and equipment they need to perform their duties effectively.” ? Deputy Chief Russell began his career with the Haltom City Police Department, working his way up to the rank of sergeant before accepting the Captain position with Richland Hills Police Department in 2020. While there, Russell oversaw daily operations of uniformed and support services within the department as the second in command. Over the years, he has served in many capacities including K-9, traffic, SWAT, DWI enforcement, accreditation manager, in addition to serving as an adjunct instructor for multiple police academies.? ? In addition to a master’s degree in criminal justice and criminology from TCU, Deputy Chief Russell also completed the Leadership Executive and Administration Development program through TCU and the ILEA School of Executive Leadership. He also came highly recommended by both Chiefs of Police he previously served under.? ? "I am honored to join the Bedford Police Department and serve this community,” Russell said. “I look forward to working with the dedicated men and women of this department to enhance public safety, build trust, and continue the department’s commitment to excellence."

Over the last several weeks, crews have been installing a permanent colorful glass wall with double doors to the Children’s Entrance, which will help reduce noise coming from this area to the rest of the Library and help parents catch their runners!
