关于我们
City Government: The City began with the incorporation of the town of Winslow in 1947. In 1991, the city annexed the remainder of the Island, establishing the City of Bainbridge Island. The annexation allowed the city government to take full responsibility for providing dedicated services to the entire island. As a non-charter code city, Bainbridge Island originally operated under a Mayor/Council form of government. The form of government has been changed following a May 19, 2009 vote in which a majority of islanders expressed a preference for the Council/Manager form of government. This form of government is regulated under the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 35A.13.

We’ve heard concerns that the driveway to the Madison Ave ballot box might be closed due to Madison construction, but this is NOT TRUE. The driveway to the BALLOT BOX WILL REMAIN OPEN AT ALL TIMES until after polls close on November 5. A message in the Thursday, October 31 traffic notification mistakenly stated that driveway access to the ballot box would be closed overnight on November 4. This was INCORRECT, and we apologize for any confusion. Please rest assured: the ballot box driveway access will stay open continuously until polls close on November 5. People can access Madison Ave. via High School Rd. in the evening on Nov. 4.

Our Operations and Maintenance team installed the new Winslow Way bike corral just in time for Halloween! This bike corral is part of a pilot program aimed at expanding accessible bike parking in Bainbridge Island’s neighborhood centers as part of our Sustainable Transportation Plan. As a fun addition, the public selected a winning mural design that will be painted on the corral pavement by summer 2025. So if you're heading to Hometown Halloween and wondering where to park your bike—or broomstick—check out the new bike corral on Winslow Way near Madison! It can hold up to 10 bikes or brooms, including e-bikes, cargo bikes, and even Nimbus 2000s.

Celebrate the beauty of Bainbridge Island’s newest public trail! The Farm Trail dedication last Friday was a delightful autumn event in a gorgeous setting. Kids eagerly planted native plants along the trail, adding to the festivities. The Farm Trail, a collaboration between the City of Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District, and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, offers stunning views of historic farmland, including the Suyematsu property. The Park District constructed the trail under an agreement with the City, with the Parks & Trails Foundation funding additional trail and plant restoration. Long planned as part of the 2001 Open Space Bond for community farmland, the trail connects the community with active, working farmland and scenic landscapes. The new Farm Trail runs from Day Road East to Lovgreen Road, along the west edge of the community farm district, pumpkin patch and historic agricultural lands. Enjoy the trail!
