The City of Arcata is seeking community members to apply for an opening on the Planning Commission! Planning Commissioners have a direct impact on Arcata’s future. The Planning Commission makes decisions on City development plans, projects and land use regulations, which makes its role especially vital to the community. The Commission will make decisions on future housing and in-fill development, consider recommendations on major policy and assist the development of new regulations to implement development plans throughout Arcata. Community members who wish to apply for a seat on the Planning Commission should have interest in learning all areas of city planning, development and historic preservation. While a technical and professional background in planning and related fields is helpful, sound judgment and critical thinking are a priority. Applicants must live within Arcata City limits or live or work in the Arcata planning area to be considered. Everyone with an interest and a willingness to serve the community is encouraged to apply. Construction on the Arcata Library Improvement Project is underway! ???? The Library will remain open during construction with a temporary alternate entrance. Construction for these new improvements is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2024. Please follow all signs for temporary entrances and exits to the building along with any other notices during construction. Construction ] is focused on enhancing accessibility throughout the library building including the restrooms, emergency egress, entryway and work counters. The project is a result of decades of collaboration between the City of Arcata and the County of Humboldt. The City received a grant from the California State Library Building Forward Grant program in 2022 and worked with the County of Humboldt and Whitchurch Engineering to prepare construction-ready plans for these accessibility improvements. Come and celebrate the renovations and re-opening of Carlson Park with the City of Arcata team! This week we are excited to feature Los Giles Taqueria's service at this event! Bring the kids to see the debut of the brand-new play structure or grab the pickleball equipment to test out the newly installed pickleball courts! Afterwards, pull up a chair or picnic blanket, grab a bite to eat from a food truck and stick around to listen to music, play yard games, and more. Attending this event series will be a great way to connect with neighbors, build community and celebrate the re-opening of Carlson Park! Food available for purchase from participating food trucks. Outside food is welcome.
