Way to go! COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING AWARD City of Amarillo | Vision 2045 For a comprehensive or general plan that advances the science and art of planning. City Plan – Vision 2045 innovates comprehensive planning for more conservative communities, advancing meaningful planning work while acknowledging Amarillo's hesitancy for land use regulation. Experiencing typical suburban growth along affluent edges as the older core declined, planning has not been viewed as a solution to community challenges arising from these growth patterns. An inclusive process was required to recast planning as a roadmap for positive change and actively address concerns over the plan's potential impact on property owner rights. Ultimately, it evolved into a community-supported guide that strongly emphasizes a voluntary approach to improving Amarillo.

The Amarillo Environmental Health Department plays a crucial role in keeping our community safe. They are a critical part of public health, ensuring environmental justice, food safety and security, wastewater management, and conservation efforts, all of which are vital to the well-being of every Amarillo resident. Earlier this week, the Amarillo City Council presented the department with a proclamation in honor of National Environmental Health Day, recognizing their dedication and the positive impact they have on our city. We had an amazing turnout for the free dog vaccine clinic at The Pavilion at the Santa Fe Depot this past weekend! Thanks to the City of Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare Department, BISSELL Pet Foundation and Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine we administered 491 Rabies vaccines and 620 DHPP vaccines. Thanks to the efforts of the North Heights Advisory Association and artist Deandre Jones, six crosswalks across our North Heights neighborhood have been transformed into unique works of art. From Bones Hooks Park to George Washington Carver Elementary, these new designs reflect our community's creativity and commitment to revitalization. Crosswalk locations: ??Bones Hooks Park (2 at this location) ??North Heights Alternative School ??George Washington Carver Early Childhood Academy ??Park Hills Elementary ??George Washington Carver Elementary Supported by the City of Amarillo's Neighborhood Planning Initiative, this project enhances pedestrian safety and neighborhood pride.

The Amarillo Environmental Health Department Vector Team is small but mighty, consisting of just three dedicated members, and is on it every day from March to November! This hardworking trio covers a lot of ground. In 2023, they pre-treated 30 acres, larvicide 60 acres, and adulticide 15,000 acres. Their efforts are crucial in managing mosquito populations and preventing the spread of diseases like West Nile and Zika. Did you know that mosquitoes are the deadliest insects in the world due to the diseases they carry?
