A group of North Carolina State University students are spending spring break in Silicon Valley learning about innovation and entrepreneurship in the real world! ???? What is even cooler than that, you might ask? Oliver S. of Navan and Greg Mulholland of Citrine Informatics went on this trip while at NC State. Now, they are hosting us here in California! ????

Many companies still fall for data myths, getting sidetracked by the idea that they must create a data lake before implementing AI. This misconception diverts focus from creating true business value – after all, tidying up data alone does not generate revenue. Our experience with successful customers shows that working on data and AI in parallel is far more effective. Starting AI with small datasets achieves two critical goals: - It helps identify which data is genuinely useful and worth the resources to digitize. (Hint: Much of your historical data may no longer be relevant or was poorly recorded.) - It motivates your team to improve data collection practices, as they can now see the tangible benefits of thorough documentation. Most of our customers come to us with just 30-60 data points. Over the past decade, we have developed a system that can start with small datasets and still achieve target properties faster than traditional methods like Design of Experiments (DOE) or trial and error. Contact us to witness our innovative approach in action and discover how it can accelerate your journey toward achieving superior results. https://hubs.ly/Q03by0Xg0

Another great day at the Innovation Agora meeting at #CERAWeek Today’s six observations: 1. A phrase I heard in conversations and panels throughout the day - “molecule vs. electron”. It’s abundantly clear that concerns about soaring utility costs are forefront on the mind of all participants in the #AI race, and the dialogue really centered around diversifying the fuel mix, along with offsetting costs. 2. It’s not every day you hear the Progressive Policy Institute advocating for more use of fossil fuels, but their context, that doing so would lower power costs, particularly in economically challenged neighborhoods, was one of the most compelling conversations I heard today. Thank you for your insight and efforts, Neel Brown. 3. I can confirm that Ernest J. Moniz still has the best hair in energy and he moderated a deeply fascinating panel on “Barriers to Bankability of Clean Energy Projects”. An incredibly timely conversation, with the shifting landscape around capitalization of new projects the central theme. Really enjoyed BP’s Marisa Buchanan thoughts on the topic. 4. Citrine Informatics is the company that you should pay attention to and their CEO, Greg Mulholland had my line of the day, “AI is a fantastic lab assistant”. Mullholland’s expertise and electric presentation style will make you interested in chemistry, which isn’t an easy thing. 5. One certainty of this emerging #AI era is the need for a workforce that can utilize it, and I was impressed with how Kara Ruskin and members of her panel discussed everything from security to adoption and multiple topics in between. 6. Nuclear is a hot topic as expected and two panels I attended fit one another seamlessly. A truly enjoyable conversation with Lucia Tan of Google, former Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman and Mike Laufer of Cairos. The expense of nuclear was a concern expressed in several discussions, hence my interest in the presentation from Jake Jurewicz and the Blue Energy method of nuclear power at lower cost. On today’s lighter note, this is one well-dressed conference, with the shoe game from many absolutely on point. Savvy attendees opted for the sneaker/dress shoe model, but many others like yours truly opted for the traditional lace up (and will be icing our feet this evening). Good ties are back as well, and I saw many folks absolutely dressed for success. Nice job, #Agora denizens. Just to clarify, no one mentioned here is a client, they are just the experts/innovators/leaders I enjoyed the most. More observations tomorrow…
