A win-win for solar arrays on brownfields and landfills, low-income access and grants: Daniel Gray and Citizens Utility Board of Ohio (CUB Ohio) "In July, Northeast Ohio scored a big victory with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement of a $129.4 million Climate Pollution Reduction Grant awarded to Cuyahoga and Lake counties. This funding will be used for solar installations on brownfield and landfill sites in Cleveland and Painesville, allowing Painesville to save its residents money by replacing an expensive, inefficient coal plant that’s been there since 1888 (!) with affordable solar energy powering the city and improving air quality, as well. ...These projects are expected to save Ohio consumers up to $30 million a year for the next 20 years. "These awards are just the most recent clean-energy projects made possible by the #InflationReductionAct (IRA), which recently celebrated its two-year anniversary. Since this landmark law took effect, Ohio has seen $10.47 billion privately invested in new clean energy projects, and over 13,000 new clean-energy jobs created... [including] worker protections for these projects, which include an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union to ensure they provide jobs that pay a family wage." https://lnkd.in/ekq4tMVz

"...a crucial aspect that frequently goes unnoticed is the significant economic opportunity created by these closures, particularly through the Energy Community Tax Credit Bonus under the Inflation Reduction Act. "The city of Painesville recently was awarded an $80 million grant through the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program. It is a prime example. This funding will facilitate the development of 35 megawatts of solar energy on the former Diamond Shamrock site and replace a coal-fired peaker plant with a 10- megawatt battery. "...For Painesville, the designation of the Diamond Shamrock site and surrounding areas as an EC is not just a technical detail — it’s a catalyst for transformation." #InflationReductionAct #CPRG #solarenergy #ConsumersMatter https://lnkd.in/eWkUB6Kw

Positive news for southwest Ohio consumers re: cost-saving microgrids & solar--'"We decided to put our funds toward the rooftop microgrids on lower-income apartment buildings as a way to provide solar and the benefits of solar to the lower-income folks almost as a first," she said. The project is supported by a?grant from the Department of Energy. It can cover up to 30% of installation and solar panel costs through provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. This makes it a feasible solution for smaller, lower-income housing units.' #InflationReductionAct #EnergyJustice https://lnkd.in/eDCPKfze
