Wondering what CREW has been up to over the last few weeks? Well for one thing, we're suing to block President Trump's illegal executive orders. With one of his first acts in office, Trump tried to quietly revive one of his most controversial executive orders from four years ago, one that would allow him to convert potentially tens of thousands of merit-based civil servants to at-will employees. That would enable political appointees to fire these career federal employees and replace them with unqualified political loyalists—removing anyone who would stand up to Trump and putting the country on a path toward getting rid of merit-based hiring in our federal government. This executive order is unlawful and exceeds the president’s authority. That’s why we’re representing Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility alongside Democracy Forward to block the plan from going into effect.

Earlier this week CREW sued DOGE, alongside our partners at Democracy Forward. Under FACA, DOGE is required to comply with transparency, ethics, records retention and equal representation. DOGE is currently violating these requirements. So, DOGE has two choices: follow FACA requirements or shut down.

ACLU of Georgia, Public Rights Project and CREW have objected to the Georgia State Election Board’s 11 proposed new rules, which could be adopted at a meeting on September 20. Adopting these rules this late in the game would bring chaos and confusion to the Georgia election. Now is the time to ensure the smooth operation of Georgia’s elections and strengthen voter trust and confidence. If the State Election Board moves forward with these 11 proposed rule changes so close to the election, it could have the opposite effect.
