Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS) is the nation’s leading evidence-based stay-in-school organization, serving 110 schools across the state – nearly one in five Title I or high-needs schools. CIS believes every child has potential – regardless of race, zip code or socioeconomic background – but may lack equal opportunity to succeed. In total, CIS of Nevada serves nearly 100,000 students attending 13 schools in Western Nevada, 15 schools in Northeastern Nevada, and 80 schools in Southern Nevada. Nationally, Communities In Schools provides services in more than 3,270 schools in 25 states and the District of Columbia, serving 1.8 million young people and their families every year. Our second Day at the Legislature was a huge success! Over 100 students from Elko, Spring Creek, West Wendover, Reno/Sparks, Winnemucca, and Las Vegas traveled to Carson City to explore the state legislative process and share how CIS of Nevada has made a difference in their lives. We’re proud to advocate for the Keeping Kids in School Act (SB135) to secure continued funding for our vital services across Nevada!? A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to learn about our mission and connect with our students during their legislative journey! Special thanks to Isabel Graf in the Governor's office, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, Speaker Steve Yeager, Assembly Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui, Senator Edgar Flores, CIS Board Chair Raymond Specht, Vice Chair Punam Mathur, and so many others who made this experience impactful and inspiring!??

??We are excited to welcome Marlane Spain as our new Private Grant Coordinator! In this role, she will be responsible for writing, managing, and reporting on all private grants under $100,000. She holds a degree in English-Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Texas at Austin. With a background in film and television, she transitioned into nonprofit development where she discovered her passion for grant writing. Welcome Marlane - we're happy you're part of our team!
