As part of our 5-year strategic plan, we're continuing our focus on Mental Health services to our students, our staff, and the community. Part of the way we're doing that is offering Youth Mental Health First Aid. Last week, several members of our staff completed the training to better serve the students with whom we work. If you'd like to signup for an upcoming class, visit https://lnkd.in/eva2Qmf. 关于我们
Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region, Inc. (CISDR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1985 to address the growing number of high school dropouts in Dallas and surrounding areas. As experts in collaboration and in providing comprehensive case-managed services, CISDR’s professional staff brings community resources into schools to work in the interest of at-risk children in a coordinated, caring and cost-effective way. Currently, CISDR operates in 130 schools in 14 school districts in Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Hunt and Rockwall counties. Students are recommended to the program by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, friends or are self-referred. CISDR case managers work with each child to develop a holistic plan to prepare students for successful lives. This means that CISDR not only works with students to address academic concerns, but also with parents, teachers and administrators who are involved with these students each day. By using this holistic wrap-around approach, distractions and disruptions in the student’s life outside of the school environment are addressed, allowing the student to focus on his/her schoolwork.

At Dillingham Elementary in Sherman Independent School District, students are being empowered to take charge of their mental well-being through a program called “Feelings, Thoughts, and Needs.” This initiative guides students to identify their emotions, explore the thoughts connected to those feelings, and develop practical steps to address their needs. For instance, a student feeling anxious might think, “I’m nervous because I expect school to be tough today.” They can then identify helpful needs, such as finding someone to talk to, practicing deep breathing, or staying focused on school activities. Students participate in small groups, which fosters trust, accountability, and connections with peers experiencing similar feelings. The program has been a big success so far, building supportive relationships and offering a safe space for self-expression and growth. #AllInForKids #BeingPresentMatters #MentalHealthMatters

Last week, a group of volunteers from Lennox visited Blair Elementary School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD to work with the Pre-K through 5th grade classes on various STEM experiments. The students had a chance to get into lab jackets and goggles to experience science firsthand! They made slime, lava lamps, and ice cream while the volunteers also showcased a few messier demonstrations. It was a day full of excitement and wonder! Getting kids engaged with science and education builds foundations that last a lifetime! #AllInForKids #BeingPresentMatters #STEM #Lennox Pricsila Hernandez

As winter weather begins to set in, we are mindful of the thousands of students that Communities In Schools serves in the Dallas Region. We want to ensure that each student who needs a warm coat, hat, and gloves can receive a gift to keep them warm and healthy. Many of our students need blankets, water bottles, snacks, and hygiene products. All donations directly and immediately impact the students in our community who need these resources the most. Take a moment to make a donation or a purchase. Donate: https://lnkd.in/gTxYe46U Amazon Wish List: https://lnkd.in/g_9uR6sx #AllInForKids #BeingPresentMatters #MentalHealthMatters

Christie Elementary School in Plano ISD hosted a Book Fair and Masked Reader Night. Site Coordinator Erica was there to help encourage students to participate in a reading adventure! By reading a variety of books, children can learn about people, places, and events outside of their own experience and develop the skills to deal with something new. Post Secondary Success begins with curiosity and a desire to engage with the world. To support student success, you can give at https://lnkd.in/guSKQuPK. #AllInForKids #PostSecondarySuccess #BeingPresentMatters #ReadingRocks #ReadABook

Site Coordinators Darius, Allie, and Lani hosted a community-wide clothing drive for Community ISD, with collection points at NeSmith Elementary, Trails Middle School, Community High School, and First Baptist Church of Lavon. Within days of the flyer being sent, students, parents, and community members filled Darius’ office and resource closet with donations, with one parent even delivering 30 bags of clothes from her neighborhood. On pickup day, Allie, Lani, and the church's ministry team transported donations to NeSmith, where Trusted World—an organization based in Garland that redistributes and recycles donated clothes—arrived with a 26-foot truck to collect the record-breaking haul. The truck was packed front to back, marking one of the district's largest clothing drives. Thanks to these efforts, Community ISD has provided essential items to many local families and is already preparing for a second round with winter coats. #AllinForKids https://fbclavon.org/ https://trustedworld.org/
