Thank you waterloop for featuring our latest report from CIS in collaboration with the Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange in your H2O minute news. If you have the time, please read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eF2DEv_f Thanks to the Great Lakes Protection Fund for their continued support of Resilient Infrastructure Sustainable Communities (RISC).
??H2O Minute News ? Sri Vedachalam of CIS: A new report, Resilient Stormwater Management in the Great Lakes Region, highlights solutions to climate adaptation and urban flooding challenges. Funded by the Great Lakes Protection Fund and developed by CIS with the Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange, the report identifies key barriers and bright spots for stormwater management across cities and towns. Key takeaways include breaking down silos between municipal departments, securing sustainable funding, expanding workforce training, improving asset management, and ensuring cities are ready with prioritized projects when funding becomes available. By scaling up best practices, the region can better prepare for a changing climate and protect water resources for the future. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/eysPQSx2

Team CIS’s work with Prince George's County, Maryland was recently highlighted by waterloop’s Travis Loop. This episode explores the process and accomplishments of this “first of its kind” innovative 33-year community-based partnership (CBP), the The Clean Water Partnership (CWP) between the Prince George’s County and CIS. With over $300 Million spent to build over 425 projects through July 2024, CWP is one of America’s largest green stormwater infrastructure programs.? ? Jim Lyons of Prince George's County, Maryland along with Roland L. Jones and Sanjiv K. Sinha, Ph.D. of CIS share how over $240 Million has been spent with local, small businesses, and how CIS has mentored more than sixty small businesses. Over fifty percent of the work has been completed by county residents, and nearly 540 community engagement events have been hosted. View the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gR2_JmJh

A huge thank you to CIS for their incredible work in developing this new Resilient Infrastructure Sustainable Communities (RISC) report and to the Great Lakes Protection Fund (GLPF) for funding this important effort!
A new study by Team CIS commissioned by the Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange with funding by the Great Lakes Protection Fund (GLPF) to the Resilient Infrastructure Sustainable Communities (RISC) initiative underscores the multifaceted resilience approaches needed across the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes Region faces mounting challenges from climate change and urbanization. Over the past three decades, extreme rain events have risen by 45% while the average annual precipitation in the region has increased by 5–15%. This ecosystem is vital for drinking water, recreation, and commerce contributing $52 billion annually to the economy and supporting 1.5 million jobs. The report shows that to scale green infrastructure solutions (GSI) in the Great Lakes Region, a multifaceted approach is essential. The report identifies sustainable funding, workforce development, equitable planning, as well as regional planning and collaboration to be critical in accelerating the adoption of GSI across jurisdictions. The report features case studies from Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) on efficient use of private financing, Buffalo Sewer Authority on smart sewer technologies, City of Ann Arbor on resilience-oriented planning, and the City of Brampton on proactive Asset Management Plan. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gcefwC4x. The report is authored by Sri Vedachalam, Ph.D., Lisa O'Fiesh, Sarah Dobie, Ph.D., and Jaela Alvarez of CIS. #GSI #Resilience #GreatLakes #Workforce #Collaboration
