As we dive into day two of Circularity 2024, we're still buzzing from the incredible insights shared yesterday! Thank you to Martin Geissdoerfer for highlighting the inspiring energy and groundbreaking initiatives shaping our collective journey toward a circular economy.
?? ? Heading to day two of the Circularity 2024 conference in Sydney, I can’t help but feel inspired by the incredible energy, ideas, and people driving the circular economy forward. Yesterday was a humbling reminder of what’s possible when business, policy, and academia come together with a shared mission to create systemic change. It was an honour to present our new Circular Economy Labs at the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, in close partnership with Monash Business School. These Labs are designed to be a catalyst for scaling the circular economy to match the scale of the linear economy. More than a decade since the transformative Ellen MacArthur reports, it’s clear that incremental steps are no longer enough. Our vision is to bring together the sharpest minds in business, policy, and academia to develop bold ideas and accelerate our journey to a circular future. I want to express my gratitude to our inspiring panellists, Courtney Holm, a pioneering circular textiles entrepreneur, and Lachlan Feggans, a long-standing change agent at one of Australia’s leading circular companies, sharing their experiences about challenges and best practices ?— your stories yesterday were a powerful reminder of the impact individuals and businesses can have. Special thanks to our moderator, my colleague Jennifer Macklin, who leads our Circular Behaviour Lab, a cornerstone of our Circular Economy Labs, and the powerful behaviour change perspective she brought to the conversation. Looking ahead, I am thrilled that my colleague Aleasha McCallion, our Strategic Projects Manager and the force behind the Labs’ circular textiles work, will join a session on redesigning systems, creating more value, and building resilient circular businesses. I can’t wait to see the ideas your session sparks! I also want to thank Minister Tanya Plibersek for the encouraging opening words, Janez Potocnik for an inspiring keynote that challenged us to aim higher and move faster, and John Thwaites for the insightful update on the Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Board. And, of course, Nicole T Garofano, PhD, AAIP and the team at Planet Ark for organising such an outstanding forum that has brought together leaders and changemakers from across the globe. This conference is a testament to what happens when passion meets purpose. Let’s keep building on this momentum to ensure that circularity becomes not just a possibility but a reality. Together, we can transform value chains, unlock new opportunities, and create a thriving, sustainable future. Looking forward to another day of insights, connections, and action! ???? #CircularEconomy #Collaboration #Innovation #Sustainability #Leadership #CircularTransition #Monash
