Day 1 of Startup Cincy Week = SUCCESS! ?? Yesterday was packed with powerful moments, but one that truly stood out happened during my first panel. The question posed to me was simple: “What words of encouragement would you share with aspiring founders today?” Instead of diving into business strategies, I focused on something deeper—the importance of recognizing and celebrating progress in the process. I shared a lesson from an old mentor, Bill Lyon, CFP?, ChFC?, CAP?, MSFS, that’s stuck with me. There was a day when I was frustrated because I hadn’t hit a goal I set for myself. Bill told me, “Close your eyes and picture yourself on a beach. When you look out over the water, you see the horizon—it’s 3 miles away. Now imagine you’re rowing a boat 3 miles out. Are you there yet?” I said yes. He said, “Open your eyes. What do you see?” I replied, “The horizon.” He smiled and said, “It’s still 3 miles away. Now, close your eyes again, row another 3 miles. He asked again "Are you there yet?" I replied "Yes." He says "Now, open your eyes...what do you see?" I said "Bill, I see the same thing...the horizon." He responds..."Now turn around. Look at how far you’ve come.” ?? That moment taught me to stop fixating on what I hadn’t achieved and appreciate the distance I’ve traveled. Today, I shared that with the audience, encouraging them to pause, reflect, and celebrate their own journeys. The room lit up (video coming soon ??), and it turned into a collective celebration of our progress, no matter how big or small. I met so many incredible people afterward who thanked me for taking a moment to acknowledge how far we have come. A huge thank you to the entire Startup Cincy Week crew and the amazing Cintrifuse team (J.B. Kropp, Nikki Boehmker, Sydnee Jackson, Max Dworin, Mark Wood, Emily L. Easley, David Walters, Abby Grimm) for inviting me to be a part of yesterday's panel discussions. Special shoutout to Zac Strobl for having me on the NKU panel, where I shared the story of how I hired 8 NKU interns during the launch phase of my company. The day was filled with laughter, happy tears, and inspiration to keep pushing forward. Also, a little fun moment on the street: I snapped a photo with Ms. Diane, who came up to me and said, “Hey! I saw you on TV doing fitness!” It reminded me of an important lesson—people will always remember how you made them feel, and yesterday, I was humbled by how many people shared that they felt inspired. ??
