The events that led to her death, and the trials that follow, reveal the larger battle being fought for the future of the rainforest.

Attendance is free but please register to join us: https://lnkd.in/gHahbs84 Hosted with Mountain Media Arts Collective, this lab will feature "Commerce City”, a film by one of Cine Fe’s First Fellows Raúl O. Paz-Pastrana in collaboration with filmmaker Alan Domínguez. This film is a visually striking portrait of the daily life and resilience of the Latinx residents of Commerce City, Colorado – one of the most polluted zip codes in the United States. Shot over the course of one year of air monitoring by scientists, the film follows the Latinx residents of Commerce City as they navigate their daily lives within the dystopian backdrop of their streets in spite of the environmental racism that surrounds them. Residency opportunity – Applications due October 14th! The DocX Residency–Another World is Possible is a month-long residency for documentary artists, independent scholars, and knowledge-keepers whose work and practice centers counter-knowledges, counter-imagination, and otherwise possibilities to be supported in their imagining. Three to five fellows will be awarded $20,000 each to support projects (installation, film, photography exhibit, XR project, audio work, etc.) in a pivotal stage of late development or production.?? ? Fellows will reside in Durham for a month (March 18–April 18, 2025), be offered a workspace at Duke University, and have access to campus resources to further their projects. Fellows will also receive passes to the 2025 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival to take advantage of screenings, panels and networking events.?? ? The residency is an invitation for documentary artists working across disciplines — filmmakers, photographers, multimedia artists, audio artists and independent researchers — to take space to breathe and create.?Fellows will work independently but also be part of a supportive interdisciplinary cohort.?

Through their compassion and care, they also face complexities as they navigate their own privilege, the limitations of grassroots efforts, and ethical dilemmas of being involved.

Applications for this Free 6-week course due tonight! FilmNorth is offering the 4th Inclusive and Socially Conscious Filmmaking Lab, supported in part by the NEA (thank you NEA!). This program is a FREE virtual six-week course designed to help filmmakers in any stage of their career practice greater inclusive and socially responsible filmmaking and become leaders of change in our field. 10 participants are selected from a free, open call. The Lab focuses on the entire filmmaking process, from conception to finding an audience. Whether you’re a director, cinematographer, PA, or anyone else involved in the filmmaking process, you have the individual capacity to change how films and media are made. Applications are open! The deadline to apply is 11:59pm CST, Monday, September 9, 2024. The Lab has 6 sessions that run from October 22 - December 3 (no session Nov 5).
