Please join us at Cine Fe on Tuesday Jan 21 at 6pm for this month's Feedback Lab! This time we'll be giving pitch feedback for "Kamnop," a documentary feature in progress directed by Kanitha Snow & Guillermo Roqués. In this film two women, a mother and her daughter, embark on a treasure hunt to homeland Cambodia. A quest for justice, gold, and karma, in an intergenerational return trip into the heart of one of the bloodiest genocides in recent history. The pitch lab format is meant to replicate real-life sessions at festivals and other pitch forums. Filmmakers will have 10 minutes total to present their pitch, and 10 minutes for feedback from the panel. After the 20 minutes, attendees will be able to give the filmmakers feedback. Directed by Daniel Junge and Edited by Annie Eastman, this film is about a 73-year-old Catholic nun and activist, who is killed in the Brazilian rainforest where she fought against the exploitation of the land by powerful loggers and landowners. The events that led to her death, and the trials that follow, reveal the larger battle being fought for the future of the rainforest.

Paz-Pastrana in collaboration with filmmaker Alan Domínguez. This film is a visually striking portrait of the daily life and resilience of the Latinx residents of Commerce City, Colorado – one of the most polluted zip codes in the United States. Shot over the course of one year of air monitoring by scientists, the film follows the Latinx residents of Commerce City as they navigate their daily lives within the dystopian backdrop of their streets in spite of the environmental racism that surrounds them. Residency opportunity – Applications due October 14th! The DocX Residency–Another World is Possible is a month-long residency for documentary artists, independent scholars, and knowledge-keepers whose work and practice centers counter-knowledges, counter-imagination, and otherwise possibilities to be supported in their imagining. Three to five fellows will be awarded $20,000 each to support projects (installation, film, photography exhibit, XR project, audio work, etc.) in a pivotal stage of late development or production.?? ? Fellows will reside in Durham for a month (March 18–April 18, 2025), be offered a workspace at Duke University, and have access to campus resources to further their projects. Fellows will also receive passes to the 2025 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival to take advantage of screenings, panels and networking events.?? ? The residency is an invitation for documentary artists working across disciplines — filmmakers, photographers, multimedia artists, audio artists and independent researchers — to take space to breathe and create.?Fellows will work independently but also be part of a supportive interdisciplinary cohort.?

A group of moms find themselves thrust into the role of frontline responders by providing aid and shelter at a dilapidated motel. Through their compassion and care, they also face complexities as they navigate their own privilege, the limitations of grassroots efforts, and ethical dilemmas of being involved.
