Sheryl Long, City Manager of Cincinnati | 2025 Making Black History Honoree | Public Sector Leader | Miami University Alumna Meet Sheryl Long, City Manager for the City of Cincinnati. Appointed to her role in 2022, Sheryl believes in being a high-energy and forward-thinking leader. Her core values help her do just that and include being authentic and true to oneself, being accountable, contributing to her community, and leading with integrity. ? A Cincinnati native, Sheryl is a graduate of Winton Woods High School, Miami University, and Southern New Hampshire University. She promised her grandmother she would earn a college degree and did so as a younger mother working full-time and attending night school. ? “That experience taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of creating opportunities for others to succeed,” said Sheryl. ? Sheryl previously was Cincinnati’s assistant city manager and worked in administration for the City of North College Hill. Her leadership journey was shaped by many individuals who supported and encouraged her along the way. She is driven to create foundational change that leaves organizations and people better off. ? Sheryl’s advice to future leaders is to nurture healthy relationships and invest in becoming an effective communicators. A graduate of Cornell and NYU Law, Warner became a lawyer in a time when only 1% of practicing lawyers were women. After arriving in Cincinnati, she dedicated decades to supporting the arts, education, and her community, chairing countless boards and supporting numerous educational programs. David Minor, Director of Worship Arts and Media with Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church | 2025 #WeAreMakingBlackHistory Honoree | From Basketball Star to Worship Arts Leader | Journey of Faith, Service, and Musical Excellence Meet David Minor, Director of Worship Arts and Media with Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church. David, also known as Minister Minor, is a self-described God-fearing man who “loves God, loves his family, loves God’s people, and has embraced the lifestyle of being a servant-leader.” ? Minister Minor is a Cincinnati native, former all-American basketball player, and Purcell Marian High School graduate. He was the 1986 Gatorade Player of the Year and won the 1985 AAA State Boys Basketball Championship. He attended Indiana University and graduated from Xavier University with a degree in organizational communication. ? “Success is never an accident,” said Minister Minor. “Build a culture and team of people that exceed their potential in every area of life.” ? He has been in music ministry and worship arts leadership for over 25 years, produced, written, and recorded with many national and local artists, and founded Cincinnati United. His original composition “We Offer Praise” was the theme song for the Mass Service for Pope Francis’s visit to the USA in 2015. ? Minister Minor volunteers with many organizations including Matthew 25: Ministries, United Way, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital. His group Cincinnati United performs concerts to raise funding for various organizations. He credits his mother with instilling in him a love of music and believes future leaders should find successful mentors to surround themselves with. ? “I want to be remembered for my unwavering faith in God and the positive impact I have had on people,” he said. ? 2025 Great Living Cincinnatian | James M. Anderson When Jim Anderson announced his retirement from his role as CEO at Cincinnati Children's in 2012, he received over 100 messages from peers and colleagues. They’re a testament to the lasting impact he made there. Though he has no medical education - he went to law school, where he met his wife - he joined the Cincinnati Children’s board in 1979. Join us for the April Monthly Member Briefing on April 3, featuring our keynote speaker, Shauna Murphy, Superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools. Shauna Murphy is the Superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools. She became interim superintendent in May 2024 and was appointed permanent superintendent by the Board of Education in November 2024. As superintendent, Murphy serves more than 35,000 students and 6,500 employees in 66 schools. Superintendent Murphy previously served as CPS assistant superintendent. She began her career with Cincinnati Public Schools as a substitute teacher before becoming an English teacher at her alma mater, Purcell Marian High School. She served as the school’s academic dean before returning to CPS at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. Superintendent Murphy has been the principal of Hyde Park Elementary School, Quebec Heights Elementary School and Woodward Career Technical High School. A Cincinnati native, Superintendent Murphy brings more than 34 years of experience in education, most recently serving as CPS Chief of Student, Family and Community Engagement. In her former role, Murphy managed the District’s relationship with community partners, implementing industry-recognized and ODE-approved credentials and certifications to successfully increase high school graduation and a Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway for every CPS high school. She helped to create successful post-secondary college and career preparation and increased the number of active parent organizations.
