Yesterday, CIGRE Belgium NGN organized its yearly presentation competition in Brussels. The afternoon was filled with engaging presentations from Joachim Vermunicht, Dongyeong Lee, Frédéric Sabot, Oscar Delbeke, Merijn Van Deyck, Stijn Hendrix and Dominique Verhulst, detailing their insights, research and experience with large electric systems ??. After some deliberation ??? with the attendees and our distinguished jurors Isabelle Hendrickx, Paul LEEMANS and Dominique Verhulst, Joachim Vermunicht emerged victorious. He claimed the prestigious CIGRE Belgium NGN first presenter award ??, representing Etch - Energy Transmission Competence Hub with his presentation "Decision Support for Power Restoration: Mitigating Risks of Dynamic Phenomena". Merijn Van Deyck??and Oscar Delbeke??respectively claimed second and third place. With enough food for discussion, we enjoyed a nice reception afterwards ??

Yesterday, CIGRE Belgium NGN had the opportunity to visit the YUSO 100 MWh/25 MW battery energy storage system in Ruien. After a visit on the site we learned more about the battery revolution from Michel Verschuere, Stijn Hendrix, Erdi SARUHAN and Jolien Despeghel, who respectively taught us more about the position of YUSO in electricity markets, grid-integration of utility-scale batteries, ancillary services with hybrid offshore interconnectors and the optimization of residential PV-battery systems. We thank the presenters for sharing their insights and YUSO for hosting! Last Friday, some of our members visited the EQUANS offshore substation construction yard in Hoboken. During the afternoon, young professionals from Jan De Nul Group, Parkwind and KU Leuven/Etch - Energy Transmission Competence Hub - EnergyVille presented part of their work. Thanks to EQUANS for hosting us and to all the attendees for the insightful discussions!
