关于我们

Professional certification for those who sell and serve beer for a living. This style ranges from deep gold to dark brown in color with excellent clarity and a dense, creamy, persistent crown of foam. Paler examples are deep gold to light amber and typically topped with a bright white head, while darker versions are copper to brown and often reveal ruby glints beneath an off-white foam cap. The aroma showcases a pronounced malt character of toasted bread, cereal, honey and light caramel in paler versions and notes of brown bread, dark caramel, molasses, nuts, chocolate or dark and dried fruit in darker examples. The flavor profile is richly malty with some caramelized notes and residual sweetness. Some examples may have hints of cocoa powder, mocha, almond, pecan, sugar cookie, or dark fruit like plum, raisin, or date that add extra layers of depth. Hop bitterness is moderately low to moderate and tends to be more noticeable in paler examples which also may have low floral, herbal, minty, or peppery hop flavor. A medium-full to full body and moderate carbonation accentuate the rich overall impression. While malt is the focus of the style, it should be well-attenuated enough to avoid being syrupy or overly sweet. The finish is clean with variable alcohol warmth that is smooth and never harsh.

Which beer would you pair with this Korean Fried Chicken dish? This dish brings the heat, with the chicken coated in a spicy, savory and slightly sweet gochujang glaze. The glaze blends the elevated heat of red chili paste with garlic, ginger, and just a touch of honey for a hint of sweetness. What beer would you choose to match these bold flavors?

This style pours a dark copper to almost black color, often with a garnet tint, and typically exhibits brilliant clarity. It is crowned with a dense, creamy tan cap of foam. The aroma can vary widely but may have notes of bread crust, toast, nuts, cola, or dark fruit as well as some light roast. Spicy, herbal, and floral hops can add complexity as support for the malt. Rich and malt-forward on the palate with possible layers of toast, dark caramel, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, or sweetened coffee. Bitterness varies from moderate to more apparent to balance the malt sweetness and complexity. May have subtle fruity esters of plum or berry. Moderately creamy, velvety mouthfeel and medium to medium full body with a smooth finish.

With hop harvest coming to a close and Fresh Hop beers starting to hit the market, we thought it'd be fun to test your knowledge. Which hop variety do you think will see the biggest gains or losses in acreage or harvested pounds this year? Check back tomorrow for the answers. *According to the 2023 USDA-NASS National Hop Report.? Note this topic is not part of any of our syllabi; we just thought it was an interesting and relevant topic.
