His appointments are often to complex arbitrations with important – sometimes existential -- consequences. Jay limits his docket to ensure his (i) availability when the parties need it and (ii) ability to issue prompt rulings that clearly explain why the ‘hard’ (as well as the ‘easy’) issues were decided as they were. Jay began his career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg, then practiced in a Washington D.C. trial boutique. In 2002, after merging into Baker Botts, Jay helped found and then co-chaired that firm’s international arbitration practice. Jay remained in Washington until 2010, and then spent eleven years in London, handling scores of arbitrations with well over $100 billion (aggregate) at issue.
