The National Science Foundation (NSF) Polar Geospatial Center has opened its call for nominations for two open seats on the Science & Operations Advisory Committee. From the call: PGC seeks to fill these two vacancies and enhance diversity by adding members representing perspectives within: 1) NSF Facilities, 2) Polar Operations/Logistics, and 3) NSF-funded Polar science. Candidates can be members of any community that are supported or impacted by PGC activities. The deadline to self nominate, and to nominate others, is December 31, 2024. #SC24 / SC Conference Series is a busy week of conversations and connections! Raja Allmdar Tariq Ali is a 2023 CI Compass Fellow who attended, and met with CI Compass Director Ewa Deelman while at the conference. Who else is attending?

On October 26, NSF CI Compass Director of Outreach and Project Manager, Nicole Virdone, was invited to be a panelist at the?Ladies?in?STEM?event, sponsored by #GirlPowered, at the Oxford Academy in Cypress, California. As part of the Ladies in STEM panel, Nicole discussed her journey?into scientific research at CalTech and UCLA,?Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, consulting in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and finally joining NSF CI Compass. As part of her experiences, she let the student audience know that as she collected research experiences, she learned to be comfortable not knowing all the answers. Nicole was joined by Kayla Andersen, Mechatronics Engineer, and Katherine Tighe, Robotics Mechanical Engineer, both of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, during the panel.
