Our studio has been #shortlisted for the second round of the international competition to transform #Florenc - currently the largest remaining brownfield site in the center of #Prague! Our entry for Block B01 in Phase West was selected by an international jury led by German architect Stefan Behnisch Hon FAIA. The competition attracted 278 entries from 33 countries across all four plots. Florenc's character is largely shaped by its transport infrastructure, including the north-south arterial road, Masaryk Railway Station, and Florenc Central Bus Terminal. Each of the four plots is part of a wider masterplan that envisions new #housing, #retail, #workspaces, and #public #spaces. The 'Forestry in the Forest' building is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings. Its five distinct, elongated sections reach out towards the forest, each dedicated to a different department, all interconnected by the central main hall. The layout is both pragmatic and #functional, but #playful - with office spaces organized around shared internal areas creating a Learning Landscape - series of spaces for collaboration, workshops, and individual focused work. The structure makes use of passive design techniques to reduce energy consumption, and its fully wooden construction maintains comfort for occupants. “The aim for environmental consciousness of the design is met in particular by the implementation of the wooden structure of the building, where all three main types are used. The walls are constructed in the two-by-four system; the ceilings, horizontal slabs, built-in subcentres and railings are made of CLT panels; and for the large-span structures wooden glued trusses are used.” explains Jan Stolek, the Design Director at CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS. Forestry in the Forest project will be the largest wooden building in country upon completion! Located in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, it will serve as a new headquarters of the Czech National Forestry (Lesy České republiky s.p.). The design was selected through a two-round, anonymous competition, which our studio won in 2017. As the #largest #wooden #structure in the country and the wider region, it is poised to redefine the construction landscape. “Wood is the material of the future - deeply rooted in our heritage, yet one of the most versatile, high-performing, and renewable resources. Designing for the Forestry, we saw wood as the natural choice, embodying the very essence of their mission,” explains Ondrej Chybik. Our studio’s work will be featured at this year’s Venice Biennale! The 19th International Architecture Exhibition at Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia titled Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., is curated by architect and engineer Carlo Ratti. The Albanian exhibition where our work will be showcased, titled Building Architecture Culture, will focus on architects and the urban transformation currently taking place in Albania. Curated by Anneke Abhelakh, a renowned researcher, curator, and lecturer at ETH D-ARCH in Zurich (2017–2023), the exhibition will present the contributions of over 50 international architectural studios. Composed of four distinct volumes, Jihlava Multipurpose Arena connects with the adjacent university, brewery, residential street, and historic park. Our interpretation of the urban stadium typology emphasizes permeability and spatial continuity, prioritizing integration with the environment rather than imposing on it. Interwoven public spaces within the complex foster engagement, injecting new energy into the area and extending beyond the main square to activate the surrounding neighborhoods. As night falls, the arena transforms into a beacon at the heart of the city, illuminating not only the skyline but also the future of the region. Its central location strengthens the city core and draws activity back into the heart of Jihlava rather than pushing it to the outskirts. By blending public spaces with the surrounding environment, the arena aims to foster a vibrant city life and opens up new opportunities for businesses, culture, and daily interactions. Set to become one of the most modern venues in Central Europe, Jihlava Multipurpose Arena will serve as a catalyst for regional growth—attracting visitors, boosting the local economy, and reinforcing the city’s role as a dynamic cultural and sporting hub. The Jihlava Multipurpose Arena has reached a key construction milestone! The roof enclosure is now underway, highlighting significant progress since work began in autumn 2023. As the project moves toward completion later this year, its impact on the city’s future becomes ever clearer. Upon completion, the #Jihlava #Multipurpose #Arena will be one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Central Europe, playing a vital role in the regeneration of both the city and the wider region. More than just a venue, it is designed as a multipurpose civic space, adaptable for a wide range of #cultural, #sports, and #social events. Located in the heart of Jihlava, this arena reflects a deliberate and forward-thinking decision by the city (Statutární město Jihlava). Rather than placing such a facility on the outskirts - where it could draw activity away from the urban core - it has been integrated into the city’s fabric.
