We had so much fun touring this group from Clark Middle School through our Sullivan Power Plant. The students from Mrs. Mohammad's class won the regional award for the Power Pledge Challenge. This past fall, more than 2,000 students from 90 fourth through twelfth grade classes around the state competed for prizes while learning about energy. Congratulations to these top notch students! https://lnkd.in/gX-q6dcF

关于我们
Chugach's corporate mission is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity through superior service and sustainable practices, powering the lives of our members. Chugach Electric Association is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. Anchorage itself sits at the base of the Chugach Mountains. The word "Chugach" comes from an Eskimo tribal name, which the Russians recorded as "Chugatz" or "Tchougatskoi". In 1898, U.S. Army Capt. W.R. Abercrombie spelled the name "Chugatch" and applied it to the mountains. Chugach is Alaska's largest electric utility, providing power to over 92,000 members from Anchorage to the northern Kenai Peninsula & from Whittier to Tyonek. Our nearly 460 employees all live and work in Alaska.

Chugach is pleased to support the American Heart Association Go Red for Women. One of this year's Anchorage ambassadors is our employee, Evie, who shared her story of emergency heart surgery, the signals before, and the long road of recovery. We are proud to be part of a community where we take care of each other and prioritize better health for women and men!

We are pleased to be able to help tell the story of the challenges and opportunities of the energy industry in Alaska.
Many thanks to Arthur Miller of AEIC member company Chugach Electric Association for contributing this wonderful Public Utilities Fortnightly article! He discussed how his utility is ensuring adequate supply while balancing customer service, affordability, and using renewable energy sources - all while serving one of the most isolated areas of the United States. Check it out! https://buff.ly/3Q05cn4

Chugach was pleased to announce with Harvest Alaska and Marathon Petroleum Corporation that we are working to bring imported LNG to Southcentral Alaska through a project using the existing Kenai LNG Terminal. With our Hilcorp contract expiring on March 31, 2028, we have been looking at how to fill the gap as a longer-term gas solution is realized. This would bring Chugach members gas on that timeline, which is critical! You can read more in the news release. https://lnkd.in/gTMksHf6

Just catching up after the recent windstorm that caused significant damage to our infrastructure and caused multiple power outages. We worked around the clock for multiple days to restore power to all. We appreciate the Chugach workforce who gets the job done in all weather conditions -- and our members for their patience through the storm. Thank you to all as we navigate this crazy winter!

Newly-elected Alaska State House representatives Ky Holland and Carolyn Hall of Anchorage and Nellie Jimmie of Toksook Bay toured Chugach's Southcentral Power Plant and dispatch center on January 9. These freshman legislators learned about generating electricity and the challenges facing the industry revolving around gas supply and the energy transition.?

Safety is of the utmost importance in our business. Our senior manager of safety, Marty, recently talked to some 4th graders at Huffman Elementary School about electricity and how to be safe around it. Our Safety City program is for 4th-6th graders, teaching how electricity works and how to safely live around outdoor electrical systems. Who knows? We might be talking to some future linemen, electrical engineers, power plant operators... or any number of jobs in our industry. https://lnkd.in/gHPjfUGg

A special trip to Anchorage City Hall today to deliver a capital credits check to the Municipality of Anchorage and Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. Over 93,000 current and former Chugach Electric members are receiving their share of the 2024 capital credit retirement of over $4 million. One of the advantages of being a member of a not-for-profit electric cooperative is you are an owner, and share in the financial success of the cooperative through capital credits. Most of the credits come via a bill credit - members with more than one account or who are receiving more than $600, get a check. The mayor was clearly pleased with the capital credits presentation to the MOA from our CEO, Arthur Miller!
