?? Opening this evening 'Greta Pratt: Jamestown is Sinking.' Join us starting at 5 p.m. for Mixtape: First Thursdays where Pratt will join us to discuss her work. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow in photography, @gretapratt is an acclaimed local artist whose work explores American myth, place, and identity. Pratt’s work reappraises these landscapes through the contemporary lens of climate change, compelling viewers to examine how colonization, spurred on by capitalist interests, has dramatically altered the natural environment. ? It's Fat Tuesday, happy Mardi Gras! Did you know our large-scale Picasso painting was originally commissioned for a Mardi Gras party? The Count and Countess de Beaumont commissioned Picasso to create this decoration for a ball at their house, the H?tel de Masseran in Paris. The figure on the left represents Lent, seemingly emaciated and holding the typical Lenten food of fish. ?? In contrast, the glowing, rotund figure on the right represents Carnival and the excesses of Mardi Gras. Come celebrate Mardi Gras and see this work on view today. ?
