We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our outstanding Baylor pediatric residents, Dr. Joni Chow, was featured at the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology’s annual meeting in Boston! San Antonio is about to get COWlorful ! During the CowParade 2025 kick-off celebration, 40 artists who were selected to transform life-size cow sculptures that will be auctioned off in support of our Foundation, were introduced to the public. CowParade artists and local art patrons were treated to the unveiling of the first completed cow, Good MOOd, a celestial, colorful cow created by the campaign's lead artist, Allison Gregory. Over the next few months, the 40 artists will complete their moo-sterpieces. In spring 2025, the cows will be spread throughout San Antonio to "graze" until the summer when they will be auctioned off. As the first facility in the city to offer ECMO for pediatric patients, our pediatric intensive care team was thrilled to host a special reunion for ECMO patients and their families.ECMO, the highest form of life support, has been a lifeline for children with heart and respiratory failure. Over the past several years, more than 500 kids have received this life-saving treatment with our team. This reunion highlighted the deep bonds between patients, families, and our Associates and clinicians. It was a beautiful opportunity for these brave kids and their families to reconnect with the incredible care providers who played a vital role in their recovery. Her nominator, a mom of one of Allie's patients, shared, "She is the kind of nurse that can turn a bad day good in an instant. As a mother, I don't know what I would have done without her. On the worst days we had, Ally made sure to not only meet [my son's] needs, but she always made time to talk to him, interact with him, and just get to know him. I wanted to take a minute to highlight the remarkable career of Dr. James Lukefahr, who wraps up an illustrious, award-winning journey as a child abuse specialist in San Antonio. As Medical Director of the Center for Miracles at CHRISTUS Children's’s, Dr. Lukefahr has been a leader and advocate for child abuse victims for decades. In 2010, he became one of the first pediatricians in the U.S. to be board-certified in child abuse, setting the bar for excellence in his field. ? Dr. Lukefahr’s leadership extended beyond the hospital walls. He served as a former committee member and past chair of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), completed six years on the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect, and served as the 2010-2011 president of the Texas Pediatric Society, the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His accolades include the Kaliski Award of Merit and the Daeschner Lifetime Achievement Award. ? Congratulations, Dr. Lukefahr, on an outstanding career.
