November is Home Care and Hospice Month. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the U.S. population age 65 and over grew nearly five times faster than the total population over the 100 years from 1920 to 2020. As the population ages, more people are worried about aging in place, and being safe, well and independent in their own homes. Since 1922, ChristianaCare HomeHealth has helped neighbors in Delaware live independently and get the care they need. In a recent episode of For the Love of Health, Ann Painter, President of ChristinaCare HomeHealth and Pam Szczerba, Director of Quality, Education and Risk Management for ChristianaCare HomeHealth offered valuable insights into this evolving field. We're excited to see Kelly Banas present for CRISPR Medicine News's webinar next week! She'll be discussing her team's development of a unique strategy to disrupt NRF2, a key gene involved in drug resistance in solid tumors, to augment standard of care therapies. This is research that she's grown intimately familiar with over the past nine years, and we're proud to see her go in front of an international stage to present it to the public. Find the link to the webinar in our comments and sign up today to reserve your spot.

I was honored to help read the names & stories of those gone far too soon at our ChristianaCare Transgender Day of Remembrance event today! ????? These stories are truly hard to process but must be spoken out loud & validated. We ALL have the right to life, peace, safety from violence & acceptance of our differences. No one has to embrace what they do not fully support BUT, no one has the right to terrorize those different from them in religious beliefs, creed, race, ethnicity, or body identity either! Prayers up for all of those impacted directly or empathetic to others who are hurting. This is a tough day! ??????

What an impactful and timely event! Let’s keep the momentum going.? ? Today’s Gun Violence through a Public Health Lens Forum brought together public health leaders, community advocates, and stakeholders to discuss critical solutions for addressing gun violence in Delaware. Hosted in partnership with Coalition for a Safer Delaware, Healthy Communities Delaware, ChristianaCare, Nemours, and other key organizations, this event underscored the urgency of collective action to build safer communities.?? ? We’re proud that our own Alexandra Wynn, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher with the UD Partnership for Healthy Communities, represented her vital work as the lead of the Delaware State Health Improvement Plan on one of the event panels. Her insights highlighted how evidence-based strategies can drive sustainable, community-focused change.?? ? As the forum reminded us, addressing gun violence as a public health issue requires ongoing collaboration and engagement. Let’s continue to work together to create a safer and healthier Delaware for all.?? ? Stay involved and stay inspired!

It was an honor to partner with the Coalition for a Safer Delaware and other public health minds to convene yesterday’s Gun Violence Prevention Summit. This sort of cross-functional collaboration is exactly how we are going to continue to move the needle on gun violence solutions and I’m so proud of this work! As our keynote, Dan Semenza, demonstrated: gun violence is not just a pubic health crisis, it SHAPES #publichealth. Today we joined the Coalition for a Safer Delaware to host a state wide gun violence prevention summit. Attorney General Kathy Jennings and Governor Elect Matthew Meyer kicked off the day, both of whom have rolled their sleeves up for years on this issue. I had the pleasure of moderating a panel around community solutions to violence discussing: ??Being at the bedside of patients post gun shot wounds to reduce retaliation or further harm. ?? Going upstream and having honest conversations with parents and kids about safe storage, social needs, and trauma exposure. ?? Lighting doorways and walkways and creating green space- with one example reducing gun violence by 29%. ?? Importance of involving the community in research from the first day, and folding that into the work. These women blew me away with their thoughtful responses. Thank you Priscilla Mpasi, MD, FAAP , Kate Dupont Phillips , Jen Pauliukonis , and Mishai Pendleton. And a side extra thank you to Traci Manza Murphy who consistently holds strong to this work and organizing and Laurel Grant, MPH who is making sure Nemours works toward safe storage and safe kids. A great morning- I can’t wait to see what these brilliant minds do together next. #communitypartners #gunviolenceprevention #pediatrics #GVP #policy #violenceintervention #socialdeterminants
