The ChristianaCare Gene Editing Institute accelerates breakthrough is CRISPR gene editing to improve human health.

关于我们

The Gene Editing Institute advances the power of CRISPR gene editing technology to improve human life through groundbreaking research and development and by inspiring and helping to prepare the next generation of gene scientists. Launched at ChristianaCare in 2015 under the leadership of gene editing pioneer Eric Kmiec, Ph.D., the Gene Editing Institute is a world leader in CRISPR gene editing technology. It is the only institute of its kind embedded in a community health system and brings a unique patient focus to the cutting-edge science of CRISPR gene editing. As a wholly owned subsidiary of ChristianaCare, the Institute is positioned to fast-track new research discoveries to market. The Gene Editing Institute is divided into three teams of dedicated scientists and innovators. The Discovery Research Group explores the molecular basis of gene editing, providing leading expertise in a collaborative and novel research community and creating new tools and strategies for genome editing. The Translational Research Group collaborates with ChristianaCare oncologists to pursue new, life-extending solutions for patients with solid tumors. The Education and Outreach Group inspires and guides the next generation of scientists by training teachers with the tools they need to launch students on an exciting pathway through this innovative gene editing field. We seek to diversify the gene editing workforce and increase medical literacy and trust in the medical system. Having a diverse scientific community builds trust between researchers and patients who stand to benefit from their work. It also helps ensure that scientific advances are equitably available to and used by everyone. For more information, visit https://geneeditinginstitute.com/.

  • The Gene Editing Institute explores the potential of CRISPR-directed gene editing for application in oncology and inherited disease. We focus on bringing innovative research from bench to bedside by using CRISPR-directed gene editing to mitigate the failure of standard cancer care. Our education and outreach program aims to demystify gene editing technology while enriching STEM education at both the high school and collegiate level with CRISPR in a Box?. Want to learn more? Visit our website or send us a message on LinkedIn. We're eager to collaborate in research and education to further CRISPR's integration into our community and our healthcare.

  • We hosted Cecil County School of Technology this week in Learning Lab! Students had the chance to perform the CRISPR in a Box experiment, talk to an expert in the field from our lab, and practice their laboratory skills with dedicated teachers. These students are about to start the lab component of their capstone project and asked London McGill for some tips. "If you get a result you weren't expecting, and then you repeat the experiment and get the same result, that's not a failure," she said. "It's a door to re-thinking your question and finding out something different. Science isn't always about getting the 'right' answer. There's no right answer in science. What science is about is discovery and continuing to seek results, no matter what comes your way." There's still Learning Labs available in December and the upcoming spring! If you want to lead your students on their own journey of discovery, visit our website and book today.

  • We're excited to see Kelly Banas present for CRISPR Medicine News's webinar next week! She'll be discussing her team's development of a unique strategy to disrupt NRF2, a key gene involved in drug resistance in solid tumors, to augment standard of care therapies. This is research that she's grown intimately familiar with over the past nine years, and we're proud to see her go in front of an international stage to present it to the public. Find the link to the webinar in our comments and sign up today to reserve your spot.

  • What a week! Let's recap: 1. We co-hosted BioBreakfast at the Ammon Education Center, speaking to oncologists, professionals, and leaders in the area about our current trajectory in gene editing research. Joined by fellow speaker Omar Khan, Eric B. Kmiec gave a presentation that prompted discussions on the advances of healthcare research and analytical tools for genomic researchers. 2. We attended Advanced Therapies 2024, setting up a booth with our educational and technological content and connecting with an international audience! We were so thrilled to bring the Gene Editing Institute to the Philadelphia Convention Center. Between sessions, keynotes, and individual connections at our booth, we saw hundreds of people and engaged with them on our mission, our values, and our plans for the future! 3. We sent Sarah LaTorre, our education program coordinator, to California to attend NABT's 2024 conference in Anaheim! She saw the sights, shared information about CRISPR in a Box with the nation's biology teachers and hosted some workshops to fully show off the kit's capabilities. She also got to enjoy some sunnier weather than us as November chill sets in on the east coast; lucky her! We're extremely proud to continue sharing our story to a wider audience, and opportunities like this mean we get to make solid connections in the community and learn about the range of therapeutics being developed by institutes and companies around the world. Genomic medicine is still only at the beginning of its capabilities. Every day, we see more evidence that assures us that this is the future of treatment, from rare diseases to cancers to widespread inherited illnesses. Our hope is to continue that trend with a patient-first approach, so we always know we're sticking up for our community. Catch us next week at the 9th International Conference on Cancer Research & Drug Development in Boston, MA! We're not slowing down yet!
