At Christ Child House, we deeply respect and honor Juneteenth, a significant national holiday. As a white woman, I am committed to ensuring that my actions and words reflect my sincere respect and honor for my family, friends, colleagues, staff, the youth I serve, and the families I work with. Juneteenth holds profound significance within the African American community, marking the historic day when slavery was abolished in the United States. This day, which we rightfully celebrate and honor, represents a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, despite its long overdue recognition as a federal holiday in 2021. My goal is to approach this day with the utmost respect and understanding, acknowledging its deep impact and celebrating its importance with the dignity it deserves.

We attended the We Care Foster Care Lunch and Learn on May 2, 2024. We Care Foster Care plays a vital role for children in foster care who are underserved and disadvantaged. The organization provides these children with the opportunities and resources necessary for success. Here’s how We Care makes a difference: Collaborating with community partners. Connecting the community’s generosity and resources with a child’s hopes and needs. Creating unique programs to help children thrive. One such program is "Drawing on Our Strengths," which offers educational programming to the youth at Christ Child House. This initiative helps children visualize and explore social skills in a fun and memorable way. Studies show that character and social skills are the top indicators of future success in school and life. "Drawing on Our Strengths" combines these crucial skills with fundamental drawing objectives, helping kids to: Enjoy art and express themselves positively through drawing; Understand, retain, and apply basic social skills to their daily lives; Learn important skills to think and express ideas and feelings visually; Thrive in a safe, fun drawing community.

National Foster Care Month, observed each May since 1988, honors and supports children, youth, and families in foster care. This campaign highlights the vital role played by everyone involved in the child welfare system while providing assistance to them. Foster care offers temporary homes for children who can't reside with their biological families due to various reasons. It involves foster parents, volunteers, professionals, and policymakers collaborating to find permanent homes and connections for these children until they can return home, or a permanency plan is arranged. Open position at Christ Child House Position: As the Activities Coordinator & Health and Safety Officer at Christ Child House, you'll orchestrate recreational programs while ensuring the well-being and security of all involved. This role plays a vital part in aligning activities with our mission, fostering cultural awareness, and responding to individual needs with sensitivity. Responsibilities: Recreational Programming: Develop and execute a monthly activities schedule. Secure funds, manage receipts, and track expenses for activities. Plan and implement on-campus and off-campus events, including annual camping trips, summer camp activities, and off-campus excursions. Conduct Independent Living Skills classes, imparting essential life skills and health education to residents. Organize an annual end-of-school celebration and coordinate holiday-related activities and gifts for residents. Health and Safety Management: Develop, implement, and oversee health, safety, and risk management policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards through safety orientation, training programs, and periodic audits. Analyze accident data, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures. Maintain inventory and upkeep of recreation equipment and supplies. Conduct monthly health and safety reviews, including kitchen inspections, and address any concerns promptly. Develop and update emergency response plans, hazardous materials policies, and safety manuals. Administrative and Collaborative Duties: Prepare budgets for activities. Foster community relationships and establish connections to support program objectives. Obtain consents from parents or guardians as necessary and act as a "prudent parent" per guidelines. Participate in program evaluations and continuous quality improvement meetings. Serve on Agency committees and assist in investigations as required. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree with relevant experience accepted; High School Diploma required. Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in childcare services or recreation management. Licensure: Valid driver’s license with limited moving violations in the past 5 years. Training: Completion of orientation and ongoing training as per agency policy. Physical: Ability to fulfill physical requirements of the role and operate a motor vehicle. Good moral character, emotional stability, and cultural sensitivity. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Ethical judgment and professionalism in all interactions.
