@Parents: Ready for Daylight Savings this weekend? At Chorus Sleep (YC W’21), we know how challenging the "fall back" can be. While that extra hour sounds great to us adults, it can mess up that carefully crafted sleep schedule for your kiddo. Here are some tips to make it smoother: 1?? Gradually adjust your child's bedtime by 10-15 minutes each day leading up to Sunday. E.G, If regular bedtime is 7:00 PM: - Thursday (tonight): 7:15 PM - Friday: 7:30 PM - Saturday: 7:45 PM - Sunday: 7:00 PM (which would have been 8:00 PM on the old schedule) 2?? Light is your friend! Get plenty of morning and afternoon sunlight exposure to help your child adjust to their slightly later sleep time. 3?? If it's challenging, remember that temporary sleep hiccups are totally normal, and everything is just a phase! Want a more detailed guide on how to tackle daylight savings? BIG insights from Eric Bricker, MD on the latest Gallup research. A Gallup survey of 4,000+ women revealed their top health priorities are (in descending order): 1) #Mental health 2) #Sleep 3) #Weight 4) #Nutrition 5) Chronic #Diseases Importantly, women make 80% of family healthcare decisions, making them critical to overall employee health. Thus, Dr. Bricker urges employers to "help with mental health, sleep, weight and nutrition OVER chronic diseases." He emphasizes, "We must make women's priorities OUR priorities." This is exactly what drives our passion at Chorus Sleep (YC W’21) Yes, sleep is a newer concept in the employer world. But it's a MASSIVE pain felt by our employees. And we need to listen to them. So when people ask me: "Do you really want to be another point solution?" This is why I say yes. Because sleep is too important to keep putting as an afterthought. Read more about Dr. Bricker's and Gallup's findings below, or on our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/dC9bghSd #EmployeeWellness #WorkplaceHealth #HRStrategy
#Women: The Key to Employee #Health. Women make 80% of the healthcare #decisions for a family... they are the 'healthcare CEO' of the household. Therefore, if we are to improve the health of the #family, we must understand and help women in their health. Gallup polled over 4,000 women in April of 2024 about their health priorities and found that the top priorities are (in descending order): 1) #MentalHealth 2) #Sleep 3) #Weight 4) #Nutrition 5) Chronic #Diseases The poll also found that 70% of women report difficulty in making health a #priority. The reasons? 1) Too busy #caring for other family members 2) Not enough #time 3) Not enough #money To help women--and by extension their families--#employers and #clinicians can: 1) Offer to help with mental health, sleep, weight and nutrition over helping with chronic diseases... we must make women's priorities OUR priorities. 2) Provide in person and virtual visits 3) Give access to same day and next day appointments 4) Use women to help convince the men in their lives to seek healthcare. Last week, I had the joy of leading a panel on non-traditional benefits at a health and wellness conference for HR leaders. It was particularly eye-opening given these stats: > 82% of job seekers consider the benefits package to be a significant factor in deciding on a job offer.? > Employees are 70% more likely to remain loyal to their employer if they are satisfied with their benefits.? > BUT...while 86% of employers believe their employees are loyal, only 36% of employees would recommend their workplace to job seekers. This significant gap in what employers and employees believe begs an important question: > What aren't traditional benefits doing today? And how can we rethink traditional benefits to provide truly high-impact support for whole-person health? Throughout the conference, what struck me most was the genuine care the HR leaders have for their employees' wellbeing. It's inspiring to see forward-thinking champions exploring benefits that go beyond the traditional, aiming to support the whole person. In our panel, two leaders shared their non-traditional benefits strategies:? > Cory Rose (TAG) emphasized Chorus Sleep (YC W’21) as a foundational and inclusive benefit: critical for health, customer care, and relevant to all employees. > Jerrell Moore (Cadence Bank) highlighted fertility support to attract emerging talent and support families. These examples represent different ends of the benefits spectrum. One is more inclusive for all employees, while the other is more targeted for an important subset. Together, they showcase the diverse ways companies can address whole-person health. I left the conference energized and grateful to be part of an industry redefining employee wellness. To all the HR leaders out there championing innovative approaches: your dedication is making a real difference. Keep pushing boundaries! Thanks, Opal Group for having us! #EmployeeWellness #HRInnovation #WorkplaceBenefits

At Chorus Sleep (YC W’21), we help our partners implement strategies for sleep-supportive work environments. I wanted to share a key learning with this broader community so you can also benefit from what we provide our partners. One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to do this is through flexible work arrangements. Our "how-to" guide explores: ? The science behind night owl / morning lark preferences and their impact on work performance ? How flexible schedules can improve sleep quality and work effectiveness ? Practical examples of flexible work arrangements for different types of employees ? Strategies for effective implementation in your organization For leaders looking to create a more inclusive and effective workplace, especially for retaining talented populations like midlife women who face serious and unique sleep challenges, I hope this guide offers a free and easy place to start :) Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gAdY7FVG #FlexibleWork #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceWellness #SleepHealth #EmployeeRetention #Inclusivity

At Chorus Sleep (YC W’21), we're often asked what strategies organizations can use to support their employees' sleep health. To help, we've created a short guide on building a sleep-friendly work environment. We've focused on practical steps that benefit ALL employees, while considering the unique sleep challenges faced by groups where sleep issues are particularly common. Key highlights include: - Allowing flexible start and end times: Using tools like Loom and Asana for more asynchronous work - so night owls and early birds can work when they're most productive. - Providing concrete resources and tools:? Education is great, but employees need actual hands-on support too. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gNunzGjG #WorkplaceWellness #SleepHealth #EmployeeRetention #ProductivityTips

I recently did a fireside chat with Kate Milne about retaining talented midlife women. We explored the often-overlooked link between sleep disorders and the "great breakup" phenomenon facing women in the workforce. As the workforce ages and women's participation reaches new heights, we're seeing a worrying trend - the "great breakup." Midlife women, especially those in leadership roles, are leaving their jobs at alarming rates, seeking better work conditions and improved well-being benefits. As high as 70% of women in midlife experience serious sleep issues This can deeply impact their careers and ultimately, their decision to stay with or leave their employers. Kate shared a sobering stat: when midlife women experience sleep problems, they're 31% more likely to become unemployed. To spark conversation, we've started a short series at Chorus Sleep (YC W’21) on this topic and are pleased to share our first post: "Retaining Midlife Women: Addressing Sleep Disorders to Prevent the Great Breakup." It dives into the unique challenges faced by midlife women, how poor sleep affects the workplace, and strategies for creating a more inclusive work environment. The best leaders, like Cory Rose and Stephanie Brazil at TAG - The Aspen Group, are thinking beyond traditional benefits. They are drawing on what's intuitive from their own -- lived -- experience: Prioritizing their teams' sleep health is key to a thriving workforce. Gallup's study backs this up. Their research shows employee retention is 2x higher for well-rested employees compared to poor sleepers. As benefits leaders, we're always on the lookout for high-impact solutions, but how often do we come across an opportunity for a 7-9x return on investment? We all recognize the vital role employee well-being plays in fostering an engaged and thriving workforce. Gallup's recent findings highlight an important trend: Americans are losing sleep. This revelation underscores not just personal health issues, but a burgeoning challenge within the workplace. Notably, women under 50 years old are disproportionately affected, which ties into significant diversity implications—including the cascading impacts that poor sleep can have on promotion rates, pay equity, and more. At Chorus Sleep (YC W’21) Sleep, we recognize the profound impact that poor sleep can have on both productivity and overall employee well-being. Gallup’s research serves as a motivating call to employers about the importance of prioritizing employee health—particularly sleep—as a fundamental pillar of workplace wellness. We believe that comprehensive sleep improvement solutions like Chorus Sleep can play a pivotal role in addressing these issues. By offering Chorus Sleep as an employee benefit, employers can actively contribute to better sleep habits, reduced stress levels, and improved health outcomes for their teams. Shout out to Cory Rose and Stephanie Brazil at The Aspen Group for their strategic leadership in recognizing the importance of sleep health. Their commitment to prioritizing an inclusive approach enhances both employee well-being and productivity. https://lnkd.in/geYej4Dp ?#Sleep #InclusiveWellness #TotalRewards #Benefits #Inclusivity #EmployeeBenefits

Experts agree that a key element in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives includes addressing and supporting race-based stress. An important race-based stressor is poor sleep. Research shows that women and Black individuals are twice as likely to experience insomnia and poor sleep compared to men and white individuals, indicating a deeper issue than simple tiredness. These disparities extend to health and workplace effectiveness, contributing to broader inequities in promotion rates, compensation, and more. In our latest Chorus Sleep (YC W’21) blog, we explore the intersection between DEIB and our fundamental need for sleep, offering five actionable steps leaders can take to foster meaningful change. If you’re a leader or a soon-to-be leader, hopefully these findings can help. If you’ve been in the game for some time, I’d love to open the conversation. **What strategies have you or your organization implemented to support sleep wellness or general wellness within the context of DEIB? ** How can we further promote inclusive wellness practices in our workplaces? https://lnkd.in/gGYDTqwT #DEIB #Sleep #InclusiveWellness #TotalRewards #Benefits #Inclusivity #EmployeeBenefits
