What an incredible day spent working with our future workforce, this time focusing on personal finances! We had the pleasure of joining Peninsula Credit Union for their annual Bite of Reality event, where students were assigned jobs, salaries, credit scores—and some even had kids! Their challenge? To manage housing, transportation, groceries, entertainment, and more. I’m sure a lot of them went home with a new appreciation for their parents! One of the most eye-opening moments was how many students had to come back to our Housing & Utilities table to downgrade their homes after realizing they were living beyond their means. Their reactions throughout the activity were priceless! We had the chance to work with five groups of freshmen from Shelton High School and Cedar High School, with a total of 392 students participating. A big shout-out to Mrs. Tony and her culinary students for keeping the volunteers well-fed with delicious food. And thank you, Peninsula Credit Union, for inviting us to be part of such a rewarding experience.
