Last month, we attended the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce dinner, & there were so many great takeaways that we wanted to share! ?????? ?? Even though we're a remote team, we're proud that The Perk's official headquarters is based in Madison. We're so proud to be part of the Madison community. ?? As Leah says, "We're proud to live & work here & do our part to help create a better future, both from a work & community perspective." ?? ?? To that end, it was wonderful learning about what the future of Madison could look like & the Chamber's predictions for the future based on several different perspectives. ?? And we get to choose what perspective we take! ?? The conversations we had at the dinner among ourselves & with others boiled down to one key point: Change is hard. And, as Madison is growing ?? & changing, it's going to be important that we be true catalysts for change & help others see that change is not only possible, it can be really positive. ???? We had a great night out on the town together. As you can see, absolutely NO fun was had. At all. ?? #WeLoveMadison #CommunitySupport #CatalystsForChange

It's always a good day when you get this kind of feedback from a client: ?? “We recently partnered with The Perk to deliver a leadership session focused on multi-generational communication and building trust through effective communication. ???The experience was outstanding! ?? The Perk’s facilitators (Jess Kent-Johnson, CPCC, Emily Smit and Corie Hoffman) were engaging, knowledgeable, and connected with our team on a meaningful level. ?? The session was well-structured, interactive, and provided valuable insights ?? into understanding and appreciating the diverse perspectives within our workforce. "Last week's session was such a great intro to Culture Community & I'm stoked to further engage going forward. I'm excited to learn from this great group & continue to hone my skills." ?? We got this feedback from a new Culture Community attendee after last month's session ?? & it made us think: Culture Community is so much more than just a discussion on a monthly topic. It's a chance to feel heard & seen. Because let's be honest: Culture work is HARD work. ?? It's not a one-and-done thing. Organizational culture is always evolving & changing, which means as leaders, we have to be on top of our game, too. ?? And the best way to learn is to have a like-minded group of people who are working hard to improve their cultures to both inspire & learn from, right? ???? With that said, tomorrow is one of those opportunities ? to be with your culture peeps! Join us for tomorrow's Culture Community & hear the amazing Leah Roe talk about recognition & why it's one of the best tools we have for driving engagement & success. ?? Link to RSVP is in our comments as always. Who will we see there? #CultureCommunity #Recognition #LeadershipLessons

Emotional intelligence may seem complex at first glance. But it breaks down into four key elements you can develop over time! 1?? Self-awareness: Can you identify & understand your feelings? 2?? Self-regulation: Are you able to manage & control your emotions effectively? 3?? Social awareness: Can you sense & recognize the emotions of those around you? 4?? Social regulation: Do you have the ability to influence & positively impact the emotions in your environment? Remember, EQ isn’t something you’re born with; it’s a skill you can grow! ?? Starting with a self-assessment can help you understand where you currently stand. From there, setting goals for each element & working with a coach can make a huge difference. How can improving your emotional intelligence impact your personal or professional life?

You might remember a few months ago, we talked a lot about dreams: The dreams we have for The Perk as well as our own individual dreams. ? When we talk about dreams, they tend to be big ones, right? We tend to think about them as those goals that can be bold & challenging to achieve. The ones that are exciting & scary, all at the same time. ?????? It's worth remembering that dreams are also relative. They don't have to make sense to anyone else, as long as they make sense to us. ?? Recently, Leah & Dan's daughter Maisie wasn't feeling very well & had to stay home from school. When Leah popped out to check on Maisie in between calls, she found Maisie & Isabel happily putting together swag for a client meeting together. ?? It was such a small thing, but it solidified exactly what Leah wanted when she set out to build The Perk. She wanted to create a business that let her to be both a successful entrepreneur & a parent. The kind of business that when one of her kids was sick, she could keep them home from school & it would be no big deal. It's a tiny detail, but it's often the tiny details that form the basis of our dreams. ?? What are your little dreams that may not make sense to anyone but you? #WorkLifeBalance #EntrepreneurLife #DreamingBigANDSmall

Boreout is a HUGE issue in the working world—maybe not more than its evil twin, burnout—but certainly just as much. Where burnout is typically caused by overwork, the challenges of work-life balances & unclear expectations, boreout happens when we’re…you guessed it, bored.??? ?? Our work doesn’t have any meaning.? ???? We don’t see our value. ?????? You feel like you’re not growing. ???????? Things at work just seem…meaningless. In this month's newsletter, we dive into the causes of "boreout" & how as leaders, we can do our part to help alleviate it. Read on at the link below! ??

Last month, Emily & Leah both presented at SHRM & they both CRUSHED it. ?? (No surprise, right?) ?? Emily's talk on intrapreneurship was incredible. ?? She discussed how cultivating an owner's mindset among your employees can be one of the biggest catalysts for organizational growth & she also had SO many great tips for creating an environment where innovation thrives & everyone contributes to the company's bottom line. ?? Leah's session on recognition was attended by over 150 people! Her packed session demonstrates what we already know: Recognition is really important & people are seeing that it's valuable when building cultures that are both high-trust & high-performing. ?? The coolest part of Leah's session came when we asked the audience what they were committing to doing after the session. So many people said that they'd be doing more to incorporate recognition into their day-to-day lives...which is EXACTLY what we want to hear! ?????? If you missed Leah's session, we have great news: She's doing a version of it for this month's Culture Community next Thursday, November 21. We invite everyone that wants to learn more about building a culture of recognition to attend (& the attendance link ?? is in the comments below, hint hint). Recognition is not something to save for the end of the year or after your team knock a big project out of the park. It's a daily leadership behavior that's critical for building trust, belonging, connection & of course, results! ??
