Welcome to the new Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at CHOC! The new 23,600-square-foot unit’s increased capacity will allow us to care for more complex cardiac patients, particularly those requiring surgery and ECMO, a life-saving technology for the sickest of patients.

At 20 weeks gestation, Meyer was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, requiring specialized care from the day he was born. Under the care of CHOC’s Congenital Heart Program, in collaboration with UCLA Health, Meyer’s heart was monitored through biweekly echocardiograms throughout the pregnancy. At just six months old, he underwent open-heart surgery to correct seven major heart defects — a significant step in ensuring a healthier future. Now, one year later, Meyer has exceeded all expectations. Read more about his journey ??
