Next stop on our Ukraine journey: Odesa ?????? We arrived in #Odesa by overnight train from #Kyiv to perfect sunshine and first order of business was an early morning swim in the Black Sea (the beaches have re-opened this year btw). Actually it was only Michael and Stefan who went in, I rather enjoyed the peaceful view with a coffee in my hand.???♂???? Later we were invited to Yan Shapiro’s U-Nation startup accelerator program to share our knowledge with the founders and give feedback to their startup pitches. We’ve already have joined forces with U-Nation by hosting an event together in 2023, when the accelerator program was in the making and we are super excited to see that it as now up and running! I can’t stress enough how much respect I have for Yan Shapiro who created this amazing program. For once, it is the first entrepreneurship and #startup #accelerator program in the #Odesa region since 2017! Despite the current situation, he stayed committed and reliant and managed to establish U-Nation together with the of the Regional Development Agency of Odesa Region, Odesa IT Family and USAID. His commitment to the project and the region and the sacrifices he has had to make to bring this to live are just incredible and all of us at ukraimpulse ventures can’t overstate enough, how much respect we have for this man. It’s probably one of the most inspiring journey’s we’ve seen in Ukraine so far. So we were very happy to participate at the U-Nation event and while I shared insights about venture capital and early-stage fundraising, Stefan shared his knowledge on the challenges #deeptech startups face and how to overcome these successfully. We were then joined by Michael Hübner, Denis Baranov and Oleksandr Shynkar to give feedback to the startup pitches. Not all teams were super fluent in English, but still all managed to deliver solid and engaging presentations. For this beeing the first "real pitches" in front of foreign investors, everyone did a really great job! We were super impressed by the solutions, the spirit and drive of the founders of Chlorella Alga Alive, AI PSY HELP, FloweX Smart Systems, Pre-sowing seed treatment Parostok, Smart Hotel Assistant, MC Lab, PowerPulse & SPILCA like Ivan Pankov, Kiril Lazariev, Ramir Karanha, Nikita Cherkas, among many other founders (pls also connect with me via LinkedIn or leave a comment, so we can stay in touch ??). It was also nice to have met Ihor Fundyha and?other engaged stakeholders from the Odesa ecosystem! Next stop will be #Mykolaiv!
