I have been with CHKD for 34 years. I was hired as a staff accountant to track the construction and expansion of the hospital in the early 1990s. My responsibilities have evolved from accounting for fixed assets to donation and restricted funds, investments, financial analysis, long-range planning, audit preparation, and producing financials for the board of directors. My long history and knowledge of CHKD have proven to be very helpful at times! ???????? ???? ?????????? ?? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ??????'???? ?????????? ????. I think it's critical to enjoy the job you do, and I feel fortunate to have found that. Being at CHKD for so long makes me feel accomplished. ???????? ???????? ???????? ???????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ??????’???? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????? There are way too many to list, but I would say most of the lessons I have learned are about the people around you. It’s always important to remember to listen before you speak, that everyone can have a bad day, being helpful is always appreciated and very self-satisfying, and patience is a virtue! ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ??????????, ?????????? ?????????? ???? ????? My dream has always been to travel to Venice and ride a gondola under the Bridge of Sighs, but getting over my fear of flying will probably prevent that. ???????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???? ????????? As my fellow employees know, my husband and I love to cruise. We also enjoy music, concerts, and throwing pool parties. I also have come to love cooking more and more over the years.

Twenty-five wonderful years ago, on July 1, 1999, I started as an accounts payable clerk at CHKD. I was later transferred to the accounting and budget team as a junior accountant and, after a few years, was promoted to staff accountant. ???????? ???? ?????????? ?? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ??????'???? ?????????? ????. At the age of fifty-six (hinting at my age now), I completed the Accounting Technician Curriculum at Tidewater Community College and earned my Career Studies Certificate with honors. ???????? ???????? ???????? ???????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ??????’???? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????? My career at CHKD has helped me realize the importance of teamwork and, of course, attention to detail and accuracy. ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ??????????, ?????????? ?????????? ???? ????? If I could visit anywhere in the world, it would be Scotland, where my grandparents were born. In 1971, when I was 12, I traveled with my grandparents to Scotland and spent five weeks visiting with the family who still lived there. It has always been a dream of mine to return as an adult. ???????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???? ????????? Besides spending time with my family, I enjoy shopping, traveling, camping, and visiting wineries.

Congratulations to?Michael Strunc, MD,?and?Sleep Lab Supervisor Zach Wilson?from #CHKD's Sleep Medicine program for their accomplishments at this year's Virginia Academy of Sleep Medicine Conference. Both received awards this year for outstanding commitment and contributions to the field of sleep medicine in their communities. Dr. Strunc was awarded the J. Catesby Ware PHD Physician Award for exemplary commitment to advancing the fields of sleep research and sleep medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Zach was awarded the VASM Technologist of the Year to distinguish and recognize his service and dedication to the polysomnographic profession. Did you know that around 5% of #TeamCHKD are military veterans? In honor of these incredible team members and those who know and love someone who has served, #CHKD held a special Veterans Day event. During a Q&A led by Air Force veteran John Warburton, we had the privilege of hearing from a panel of veterans whose military journeys eventually brought them to CHKD. Army veterans Drs. Sanaz Devlin, Tiffany Bittle, and Andria Tatem, along with Navy veteran Brent Loftis, shared their personal stories, offering a glimpse into their unique experiences. There were laughs, tears, and much reflection on the sacrifices made by our peers. It was a powerful reminder of how our diverse backgrounds shape us both as individuals and as a team. The event was made even more special by children from our community. Boy Scouts Troop 481 kicked off the event with a Presentation of Colors, and local youth groups closed the event with patriotic performances. Vocal Inclusion, a chorus of young people with varied abilities, moved us with their rendition of "God Bless America," and the Hurrah Players wowed the audience with a tap dance to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy."
