Seeing Deutsche Telekom leading the #telecom sector into Web3 is huge, BUT... While Deutsche Telekom’s ongoing involvement in Web3 is a trailblazing development, it isn’t without concerns ?? For one thing, the recent Microsoft update fiasco shows the catastrophic effect of relying too heavily on centralized models. According to estimates, the mistake – which took 8.5 million Microsoft devices offline across hospitals, banks and airports – will cost Fortune 500 companies upwards of $5 billion in lost revenues ?? So while it’s good to see large corporations like Deutsche Telekom showing interest in Web3 – it legitimizes all the incredible development happening in our space – we would do well to remember the decentralized ethos of our industry and avoid relying too heavily on these centralized behemoths. Running nodes for blockchains is great, but it would be good to see the European telecom giant sponsoring more hackathons and offering grants to smaller projects building decentralized alternatives to promote a healthy, diverse and competitive #DePIN ecosystem.

Without reliable data, #DePIN doesn’t work ? Verifiable, decentralized, real-time data is integral to the concept of decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs), especially one like ours, which is focused on telecommunications and connectivity. So a partnership with a leading P2P network for data sharing seemed like an obvious synergy to us ? I’m thrilled to be working with Streamr Network and looking forward to providing real value to their community, and the Web3 ecosystem at large, as our network coverage expands.
