Brief update from our (Donald Lobo and Pranjali Lobo) current visit to SEARCH in Gadchiroli. As always, a big thanks to the SEARCH folks for hosting us and being so gracious. PJ wrote this update Over the past week and a half, I have learned so much about public health and the work done here. Some of my highlights from this trip so far have been… The field visits: We have been on a couple of field visits where we have learned about village lifestyle and culture. Many of the problems SEARCH focuses on have solutions that rely heavily on village engagement. It’s been inspiring to see how invested the villagers are in the work SEARCH does, and the overall impact this program has on them. Some examples of village visits include camps that tackle neonatal health and low birth weight prevention, health check-ups, and physical therapy sessions. It’s been interesting to learn about various problems the villagers have encountered over the?years and ways SEARCH has intervened. Surgery!!: I have had the privilege of observing 4-5 surgeries ranging from ENT to spine and plastic surgery. Renowned surgical teams from all over India perform surgeries on their campus on a pro-bono basis. It was an incredible experience to observe and interact with patients and doctors. Interactions: I have had numerous meaningful interactions with patients, doctors, researchers, and interns who all play different but equally important roles at SEARCH. Learning about their career paths and reasons for joining the social sector has been inspiring and rewarding.?

Gratitude Post ?? Believing in serendipity has been my guiding light as a Social Changemaker navigating the challenges of running a nonprofit in a commercialized world. Recently, I was selected as a recipient of Sabbatical Support from Cocoon initiative for Social Sector Leaders, a transformative opportunity curated by Vishal Talreja . This initiative offers Senior Social Entrepreneurs like me a chance to pause, heal, and reflect on our leadership journey. Receiving the final confirmation in March, I was unaware of the profound impact this sabbatical would have on my life. Little did I know that the break I thought I needed would become a necessity, especially after the sudden loss of my father in April due to a cardiac arrest. Despite the unexpected tragedy, I embarked on this healing journey with my mother in May, supported by the Sabbatical. As she copes with the loss of her partner of 47 years, I tried finding my lost strength in the solitude of mountains! I am grateful beyond words to Vishal and the Cocoon initiative for providing a much-needed space for reflection and rejuvenation. For those of us dedicating our lives to community and causes, Cocoon is truly a sanctuary we all deserve. #Gratitude #SocialEntrepreneurship #LeadershipDevelopment

?? Taking a sabbatical as a grassroots nonprofit leader? Until recently, I didn't think it was possible. Didn't even think I needed one. When Vishal Talreja and Cocoon Initiative announced their initiative, I chuckled and thought, "Our sector is getting fancy!" Yet, something drew me in—it felt irresistible, almost impossible. Amidst the myriad applications we fill as social sector professionals post-COVID, Cocoon's was refreshingly straightforward and profound. To my surprise, a virtual interview followed. Half expecting a polite decline, I found myself in disbelief when Vishal announced, "You've got the grant." It was my fancy, impossible wish come true ?? The journey to step down from leading a frugal NGO—where every team member wears multiple hats—took six months of preparation for a five-month break. My incredible Board, Devishree Radhakrishnan (our financial advisor stepping into my role), and Deputy director of Vanavil Trust @Solairaj and Board member extraordinaire Vardini S supported me every step. Letting go isn't easy, especially for an overthinking, anxious leader like myself. Moments of self-doubt were met with reassurance from my partner and Vishal ???????? Now, I'm off—planning to embrace mindfulness, prioritize health, and indulge in a bit of travel. The children at Vanavil bid me farewell with wishes for my wellbeing, which I intend to honor ?? Thank you, Deval Sanghavi, Donald Lobo, Neera Nundy, Vishal Talreja, and everyone who made this possible. Here's to new perspectives and meaningful rejuvenation! #sabbatical #wellbeing #restisright #rejuvenation
