Check out our latest Chilcast episode featuring none other than the #healthIT industry's top regulatory decision maker, Micky Tripathi, National Coordinator for Health IT: https://lnkd.in/evrVQqrG Some key takeaways: ? Regulation can help coordinate progress in our fragmented healthcare system by creating connections and standards that address systemic inefficiencies #healthpolicy ? Interoperability promotes widespread value through use cases like public health apps and coordinated care, but may not drive entity-specific ROI to motivate investment #interoperability ? Recent ONC highlights like HTI-1 adoption of USCDI v3 and AI transparency requirements aim to unlock additional value by preventing data blocking and empowering clinician decision making #HTI1 #AI Micky makes a compelling argument that deliberate policy has played an integral role in driving the next generation of innovation and care improvements. With foundational digitization of the industry essentially accomplished after a decade of concerted effort, next come the real advancements in unlocking new medical insights from that data. Be sure to tune into the full discussion to hear how the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is approaching the next wave of innovation given the lessons learned over the last 15 years since #HITECH.

In our third guest episode for the?Health Impact Project, we invited our friend Grace Cordovano, PhD, BCPA, to discuss the value of healthcare technology from her perspective as a patient advocate: https://lnkd.in/grHqzDiG During this conversation, Dr. Cordovano speaks to her experiences working with patients, noting the toll of patient administrative work, the impact of financial toxicity, and the role of technology in improving access to care – in particular clinical trials for cancer treatment. Most of our discussion can be summarized in one particularly compelling statement that Grace made, and which underlies much of her policy-focused work: anything in healthcare that touches the patient should be aligned with giving that individual a competitive advantage against their diagnosis. It's pretty shocking to realize how simple a framing that is, yet how much is actually captured in that simplicity. Be sure to tune in to hear the full discussion and learn more about all the amazing work that Grace does, and the potent lessons she's taken away from her advocacy. #patientadvocacy #podcast #healthcare #healthIT

At the beginning of every year, we look into our crystal ball and try to predict what the big stories will be for the next 12-18 months. On this episode of the Chilcast, host John Moore III interviews John Glaser, PhD,?Executive in Residence at Harvard Medical School?and healthcare industry veteran. The conversation delves into his career in the healthcare IT space, the factors that determine whether a transformation strategy will be successful, and how to think about assessing the value of healthcare IT implementations – highlighting the need for organization leaders to align based on their specific goals. After years working at technology companies as well as in healthcare delivery organizations, John has learned one thing very clearly: organizational transformation isn’t easy.?Statistics show?that?at best?only 30% of organizations that embark on a major transformation initiative actually execute on that effectively. That means 70% – or more – of these initiatives fail. Over the years, his research has identified five unique, consistent success factors for transformation that apply to all organizations and stakeholders, with a lens to healthcare (which is an update from the three originally discussed in this?NEJM article). These factors are: ? Execution strategy needs to stay front and center – no getting distracting by shiny objects. ? Business model needs to change in a material way, aligned with the transformation vision. ? Honest assessment of whether the organization has the right skills to follow through from the executive suite to the front desk. ? Understand the nature of transformation – it takes time, and there’s rarely a clear cut “end.” ? Implementation! Too many organizations get the other four right, and still fail in this most critical area. We cover a lot of ground on this episode, and we are thrilled to share John’s many insights with our community. https://lnkd.in/gygGiTjW #podcast #healthcare #value #valuebasedcare #transformation #healthIT

The ROI conversation people are having in the healthcare IT industry has changed. Following the headlines and listening to what people are saying on LinkedIn or at conferences, it is clear that the tone has shifted. Costs and expected impact have always been a factor in the purchase of new IT solutions, but rudimentary financial ROI has never been sufficient in an industry where patient experience / quality of life and physicians' ability to feel fulfilled in their work are key drivers of success. After dozens of discussions with industry leaders, it became clear the market is in need of a new way of thinking about value that has some degree of consistency and makes it possible to quantify the impact of IT investments in a more compelling way. Value assessment falling outside what Chilmark is traditionally known for, we acted as the convener for a small group of like-minded, deeply experienced individuals to begin examining the problem and catalyze much-needed industry conversations towards the development of new best practices. Our latest episode of the Chilcast introduces this new effort and the team behind the vision.
