More space + more kids = more impact! ?? The new ChildServe - Des Moines facility will consist of renovating a recently acquired building at 1750 48th Street, expediting the project timeline to serve more children, sooner. This ChildServe location will more than double the square footage of the current Des Moines center, from 9,000 square feet to over 20,000 square feet, increasing the capacity of children served tenfold – from 60 to 600. ChildServe’s Johnston location will remain the organization’s headquarter campus. "We're incredibly excited about the next steps in our regional growth strategy to transform even more lives through specialty pediatric healthcare services," said Dr. Teri Wahlig, ChildServe CEO. "The facility will improve access and decrease barriers to care for children with special healthcare needs through several of our specialized programs, including pediatric rehabilitation, autism services, medical childcare and neurobehavioral healthcare." We love seeing kids make progress during therapy! ChildServe has 18 Level 1 and 9 Level 2 therapists specially trained in Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI). DMI uses specific neurorehabilitation principles to create new connections in the brain to help children with developmental milestones. ?? At ChildServe, children participate in intensives that use DMI Therapy techniques where therapists use specific dynamic exercises to provoke a motor response from the child. This helps address gross motor skills to improve functional movements, range of motion, balance, strength, posture and alignment. ChildServe’s Foundation Team: a mighty team of mission-driven collaborators, innovators, partners, and behind-the-scenes miracle workers that help bring 30+ specialty pediatric services to over 5,800 kids across Iowa each year. ?? One of those mission-driven team members is ChildServe Regional Director of Development, Sara Volz. Sara works to secure donations and sponsorships that support ChildServe’s mission: to partner with families to help children with special heathcare needs live a #greatlife. She brings nearly a decade of fundraising experience to ChildServe. Sara works from our Iowa City location, where she collaborates with community partners to raise awareness for ChildServe, connects with donors on ways to support the organization and builds key relationships to expand our regional impact for Iowa children and families. “It's incredibly fulfilling to see the impact that ChildServe's mission has on our community. Being a part of something that creates real change and gives kids the support they need is what keeps me motivated and inspired every day,” said Sara. “ChildServe is about giving hope to families and ensuring that every child, no matter the obstacles they face, has the opportunity to live their fullest, brightest life. At ChildServe, we support children diagnosed with spina bifida each day through specialty pediatric rehabilitation services. In fact, we serve nearly 75 children each year with a spina bifida diagnosis. ChildServe team members hosted a table and participated in the Spina Bifida Association of Iowa's annual Walk-N-Roll event at Easterseals Iowa in Des Moines. We're grateful to partner with organizations to spread awareness of children facing a spina bifida diagnosis and to shine a light on the incredible things they can accomplish!
